Where’s the startup money come from? And what’s an acceptable return? Let’s do simple economics thought no2. If the only way that a company can make a profit is due to underpaying workers, then that’s not a successful business. If the only way investors get a decent return is by employers paying so little that workers claim benefit, then that’s not the taxpayer supporting the low paid, it’s the taxpayer supporting the shareholders. it’s literally barmy that working class people can’t see how this works. Id understand a silver spoon born millionaire supporting business when workers don’t get a living wage, but a taxpayer who works for a living. Flipping bizarre.
The whole 'writing english words' then pretending you were misunderstood isn't working too well for Liz Truss, why do you think we'll fall for it from you?
If you can be arsed then copy and paste what i have wrote without taking a snippet out of context showing how i am out of order or a WUM then i will apologise and change the way i post Otherwise for the very few people who try to twist what I say and mean i am going to respond back when necessary.
I'll return this with... if you can copy and paste where I've posted you are out of order or a WUM I will apologise. Take as long as you like
The first quote "writing and pretending to be misunderstood' sort of ticks that WUM box i woukd have thought and i do not do that but anyway im not for arguing with posters i like. Catch you on another topic / thread
You have played this card more than once.. FYI We now have something called the Internet and the WorldWideWeb (clue is in the name... ) So do you get all your information from?... Oh Yes- The same place as me..i.e. ,social media, Newspapers (online) BBC and other media news outlets. Other than that a small circle of friends and work colleagues, the former often like minded people which can often create a bubble of confirmation bias. I still maintain links with family and friends in UK as well as friends who still live in UK but spend time here in Italy and domiciled Brits who still maintain similar links to friends and family in UK. In fact, viewing from afar, and less impacted by some (not all) of the issues you face, I might even have a more diverse source of information than someone like yourself who works and lives in the UK. So please, drop the, "what do you know as you live abroad?" angle you and one or two on here keep throwing out. I threw my OP out there to initiate a debate. I also noted at the time, depending on the wording of a number of polls the results differed. One quoted by the rail unions showed broad support for the rail strike. You-Gov showed the reverse, and another showed 50/50 split. So, yes, stating the majority did not support it , looking at a number of polls is not correct. It did, however stimulate some debate, although, as usual resulted in some squabbling between a couple of posters. I still don't understand why you and notably Donny-Red come in all 'gangbusters' and personalise debates. e.g. Donny Red accusing me of 'trying to " lecture people" ? Strongly expressing an opposing view is NOT lecturing Incidentally, someone mentioned 'people piling on' is wrong, which I don't agree with. If a lot of people have an opposing view then they can and will post. That is not piling on or ganging up. The title of the OP implied (or at least I hoped it would ) that there would be a 'lively response' and got it. Given Barnsley's ( and regions on the wrong side of the North/ South divide) recent experiences over the last few decades in the hands of the Cons, it is fully understandable that there are strong opinions, but I just get disappointed when a handful of posters target the posters rather than just addressing the topic.
So let me get this straight - you, in Italy, are actually better positioned to speak on the public opinion here in the UK than me, a bloke in the UK. OK.
Well there’s a difference of opinion. I don’t believe you’re a WUM, it’s not even a statement I would use, and to suggest meanings to my words that don’t even fit is bizarre. My accusation is straightforward. You create posts, sometimes in very clear English, sometimes more ambiguous (open question) and when challenged, you claim the words mean something different to you, or that people are trying to ‘read your mind’ when in fact they just read your posts. I don’t think you’re a WUM, I think you’re not very good at articulating or defending your beliefs.
He hasnt said he is better positioned but is well informed and asked questions and given some thoughts. Ive only replied to offer a bit of support to back up the issues I get on here
So why do YOU think you ARE better placed just because you live in the UK.. (Try addressing my reasoning above) ? Plenty on here are happy to tell me how well Italy and the ECB is doing financially compared to the UK based on what they read, solely in the UK media! I repeat where do you source information from that is so different to where source information from? Also by "better" (not always) I mean, being geographically distanced from an issue or a problem allows a different perspective and sometimes allows for a more subjective and dispassionate view you, time and again, demonstrate that you seem incapable of debating without using emotive language
The last line about me being not very good at articulating or defending my beliefs i can certainly agree with. I try my best, Im far from perfect and hope you saying this will reduce some of the grief i get as i would like to keep contributing and being involved in threads on here.
One thing I'd like to point out is that public opinion and feeling is different to cold hard facts such as financial performance. I know that Italy's GDP grew by 6.6% last year compared to the UK's 7.4%. I couldn't tell you whether the average person in Italy is overly concerned by the low water levels in lake Garda. I'll tell you now though that the views and attitude towards the strike shown by TV presenters is nowhere near the views of the average person. That isn't from any circle of friends but from seeing the comments that reply to videos and news stories of these things and seeing the sheet number that support the action
Through my job I speak to a lot of people every day, many of whom rely on the train for transport, so I spoke to a lot of people outside any perceived "echo chamber." I also passed by a picket line several times and could see first hand the support it was attracting.
I don't know where you live but Derbyshire /South Yorkshire. Also, passing by the same picket line possibly, may not reflect national opinion nor travelling on the same train everyday with the same passengers when commuting. These are people I would consider actually form an 'echo chamber 'as you call it. South Yorkshire and the North may have completely different views as those say, in London, South East.
It's not just the wording of the polls, it's also the day they were taken. I'm not a train user so it has no real impact on me but I did note that the polls in favour of the strike tended to be taken in the days leading to the strikes while those more critical tended to be taken on the day of our shortly after the strikes. Maybe suggests that we're happy with the idea of them striking but less enthused when it's a reality and the chaos starts. Or completely different groups of people were asked in each survey...
