Any of your Dearne Valley posters explains why the hell you say Ome instead of home??? I’ve a load of mates out that way n can I hell as work out why you don’t say home
Weird one this, the over 50s seem to say Ome, the younger end say Uwam. I’ve not a clue why! We’re just grateful we don’t have that lousy false donny/wakey twang they have in royston
Do you mean 'ome' or 'om'? It's a while since I lived in Barnsley but I remember some people used 'om' - any idea which areas?
Is this what Judith is referring to? 'Ome' just sounds like a typical Barnsley way of saying it i.e. dropping the 'h'. Or 'uwam', as Goldy referenced.
Maybe Im missing yet another clicky dolphin gang thing here lol. But surely all Yorkies say 'ome' dont they, without pronouncing the H ?.
You obviously don't understand the Royston twang. It's not a false donny, wakey twang. It's black country in origin from when there was an influx looking for work. Edit With ref to the op. They would say I'm ganning yam.
In the 19th century Barnsley faced an influx of immigrants looking for work. Local preachers warned against those from the Midlands who, rather than work, preferred, “a dirty bone and a pot of ale.” Nowt changes.
