These are the barstewards that have just doubled our direct debit. A-holes. https://www.theguardian.com/busines...g-profits-at-shell-and-centrica-cause-outrage
Aside from the fact they should have notified you can I ask why they have doubled it? Are you In debit?
Not significantly, £20 ish in debit - the web page says our account is "looking good" - or words to that effect. We were out of the country for 10 weeks from the beginning of April so it could have been much worse I suppose. I've informed them that they are in breach of the Direct Debit Guarantee.
Definitely sounds out of order. My guess they are just putting people's direct debits up automatically if they fit certain criteria. Are you on a deal or just the price cap?
I think we're on a standard variable tariff, our supplier went bust last year and our account was given to Shell Energy (we had no choice in that) and have been unable to switch to better deal because basically there aren't any to be had. Both my wife and I are fairly switched on when it comes to things like this (I've switched supplier several times) but as I say, there's nowt we can do at the moment. We have no notification of the direct debit increase, no letter, no email and no message on the supplier's app or website. I tried to have an online chat yesterday but after waiting for an hour as my place in the queue dragged itself towards the top, we had to go out for a pre-arranged visit to friends. I've almost lost the will to live.....
yeah I’ve done it. Set up a standing order. Meter read every month. Already 300 quid in credit despite paying 100 quid less than they asked for.
Does that apply to all suppliers? Do you still get a discount for paying monthly by standing order like for direct debits? Edit, Just checked on the Shell Energy website and you can pay by bank transfer - which is exactly the same process as a standing order. It doesn't say anything about a discount though.
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...an-hot-water-response-Russian-gas-crisis.html Putin will continue to hold the west to ransom for helping Ukraine.
I realise you said ' to the west'....but 1% sounds rather low....Russian oil and gas combined is the major part of its total exports. According to Russiamatters.org, Europe takes 49% of Russia's oil exports and 74% of gas exports. Bloomberg estimates oil and gas sales contribute 40% to the annual budget.
So the only theory I have is they have increased it for everyone on the standard tariff as they will be going up come October. That doesn't make it right though, they should have to inform you. Hope you get through to them one way or another and sort it. The depressing thing is you'll have to probably increase come the winter anyway. However you're right they don't need your money now.
I think I read it in the Economist, its where I get most of my info from for thing like that. Most of the things you find lump Oil & Gas together, I was talking only about Gas - Gas exports make up 10% of Russia total export Revenues - of which the EU is the largest market - fomr your figures european Gas exports would be around 7% of all export revenues from Russia. But that 7% is not 7% of GDP lets remember, its 7% of export revenues, which is a portion of the GDP. So I still think its right. About 1% of Russias GDP relies on Gas exports to the EU. Oil is a different matter, its easier to find alternative markets - you don't need to build big pipelines for example, and makes up a much larger % of Russias GDP in total - it makes up 75% of Russias total export revenues - massively bigger then their gas exports - if europe wanted to hurt Russia they would be better targeting their 75% revenue stream rather then their 10%, but what do I know?
since I changed ours they have not increased in. But then again even giving them a set 200 quid a month in 3 months I am 300 quid in credit.
"The government is giving each energy company the equivalent of £400 per household out of the pockets of the British people despite them making billions of pounds of profit in the first Q of this year."
A CCJ should only stay on your credit report for 6 years - irrespective of whether it is settled in that time or not. But, speaking from experience they can make your life a *lot* harder...
