I've just looked at the live data for our energy mix and 46.6% comes from gas. With 8.4% termed "imports". Given we are able to harvest a large amount of gas ourselves, there should be minimal reliance on Russia. We are though working with a pricing system that is linked to wholesale gas pricing and as a result, we all feel the pain in our energy bills. Solar accounts for 15.5% and wind just 3.3%, with a further 14.2% from nuclear and 8.2% from biomass (just to complete the figures). You'd think it would be obvious that encouraging a fast transition of how the market is priced in the UK is important, while we seek to move from gas to alternative sources of energy. I don't know how much of a cataylst we need to move away from fossil fuels when you see the triple whammy of energy security undermined, significant elevation of costs to every Uk household and the now ever increasing tangible effect of climate change.
The problem is, gas from our fields is not ringfenced for our use, if the producers can sell to Germany at a premium then they will, pushing up prices for all gas users.
Wind is never going to replace gas, so we need nuclear, but that will take ages. Tory and Labour governments have let the country down.
I won’t be paying. Anyone who is on twitter can follow @dontpayuk who are in the early stages of arranging a mass direct debit cancellation from October 1st. If no-one pays what they gonna do? I’m all over it. Robbing sh1ts.
That and we have no storage capacity so have to export it... Remember the one at bottom of harborough hills
I've been told people who aren't paying there energy or are going to struggle the government's passing it onto local councils to charge them in there council tax instead, don't know how true it is.
Sounds completely unworkable. Besides, council's don't have the staff to chase private companies' debts. They struggle to collect their own debts half the time.
Never heard of this S74 but good luck on it happening. I’m not on twitter but remember the not paying the Tory poll tax. Eventually my arrears had to be paid. Some folk were threatened with jail.
https://www.theguardian.com/money/2...ussia-cuts-gas-supply-further-europe-pipeline Doesn't mention the riot. That's my prediction.
Likely be hard to get enough people to go along with it. If you continue to resume to pay they usually end up switching people to pre pay which is even more expensive.
Most of that is coming in October with a 65% rise predicted to take average use to £3244 - just in time for winter. That's for anyone who is on the price cap. Its a huge hike and will be too much for many to cope with.
I was under the impression that most of our gas import came from Norway? Am i missing summat? Genuine question btw
I have no idea but it's currently irrelevant where it comes from as prices are set in relation to global pricing/demand.
If lower league clubs don't get help I can see a lot of them wanting to play winter games earlier in the day to save on the cost of floodlights.
Shell Energy have just doubled our direct debit to £180 a month without telling us their intention. I didn't think they were allowed to do that.
