Probably true. I do find it hard to believe the fee for Morris though just because if it was the reported 2 million it would have been a transfer record for Luton and surely they would want to advertise him as a record signing. May well have got the 2 million but as you say, we don't make a good song and dance about it like Posh do.
They’re often selling strikers at their peak of their powers after a 20 plus goal season in League One. They also lie. A lot.
I wonder if it was our money ,would we have the same opinions. Mmm not so sure. If I had a spare million I wouldn't invest in a football club. Just saying like.
Id like to think if I won the Lotto i'd invest in our club. I'd have no problems what so ever under Patrick. But definitely a little hesitant with the current lot!
People have a over inflated view of what fee we should be able to get for a third division defender who's just been relegated and one season away from leaving for nothing.
Your logic is flawed. You've said we can't cover our losses by accepting £1m for him now, but you're happy for us to keep him here for another 12 months, pay him another year's wages, then lose him for nothing? I presume he's one of the higher earners at the club. I also presume he wants to leave in order to fight his way into the Polish world cup side. It would be nice to get £3-4m for him, but considering he's now a league 1 defender, that isn't realistic.
Have Peterborough sold off all their best players since relegation? Just wondered. Did Rotherham sell their top 4 players when they were relegated? Is it only us that tries to immediately make up the shortfall before a ball is kicked.
If they'd anyone of value they definitely would imo. A couple of undisclosed (haven't a clue whether they are/were their best players ) have left alongside frees. Sound familiar. Rotherham haven't had the players to command big fees in comparison to us. So they stuck with what they had. On league one wages. (Even one of those players now left and playing at a lower level to increase his salary.) Be interesting to see if the extra £6m treasure chest gets spent, and if so, how. Peterboroughs wage bill is 2m less than ours if figures are true. Which lessens the need to sell. Peterborough are seen by some on here as the club who get good prices. While we don't. Yet our transfer dealings in general have reaped better rewards over time. I don't think they have recieved anything in excess of the John stones dealing. With sell on. We have had far more £1m departures than them. Definitely spent more than them historically. ( you may argue a lot of it wasted) They've got probably the biggest bullshitters Owner and Barry fry in the entire leagues on transfer quotes. Only fans fall for it.
Other clubs know we have a tendency to accept small fees because we are rarely in a position of strength. We were in a position of relative strength before last summer but the board/Conway f****d it up and set us back five years. Now we're financially vulnerable again and others will exploit it.
Off the top of my head, I remember Rotherham selling Matt Crookes to Middlesbrough last season. I'd say he was their best player in the Championship the year before. They've sold their top scorer from last season to a club in the league below them with more spending power (inexplicably), and they also had Freddie Ladappo essentially refusing to play because he wasn't given a move. It isn't as simple as 'have Peterbrough/Rotherham sold their best players', because it all depends whether the interest is there. Because of our recruitment model, all of our best players are just about coming up to their peak years of 24-28. Michal Helik will probably improve as a player for the next 3 or so years, so there's bound to be interest from further up for him.
You’ve suggested this before and had replies before. Going round the houses a bit to start it all off again.
That summer wouldn't have been so bad if we'd sold some of those players that summer and used the money in key areas like replacing Mowatt and signing a mobile centre forward. It's all in the past though. Comway ousted Murphy and made a monumental fc uk up. Instead of ousting Murphy he could have had a quiet word and told him to sell some players and buy in some replacements.
