Aye I do agree, but defenders play well into their 30s these days, especially in the leagues I mentioned. He'll be 27 in a few month, so a couple of good years and you never know - I suppose that's the risk with sell on clauses. I wouldn't personally put a clause in that's only profit though. Like we get 20% of the transfer fee total, not the profit they made... if that makes sense? I'm just not sure we'll get the fee us as fans want, so if we can get a cheeky little extra from a sell on clause, would be nice for us. I suppose it's all smoke because we in reality have no idea about any of the transfers really!
I don't think nobody is saying that mate. Think we all know you just want the best for the club. It's just a lot of factors going into play at once, and as suggested above, we're a league one club now, after having one of the worst ever Championship seasons, certainly in recent decades. And as someone else pointed out, what if nobody else does come in for any other player? What if it is just Helik clubs are bidding on? It really is a shame about last season, Conway, Lee, the P.E teachers. We could very well be an established championship side again by now, turning bids down left, right and centre until we want to play ball
Got a link to that? Be an interesting read. I'd say Toney was in that list and maybe Dele Alli who went direct to Spurs from MK? Can't think of many more.
The factors at play make it very tricky but still personally wouldn't sell for anything below 2.5/3 million but that is just me. He's worth that easily in my mind and I can't see why a club wouldn't bid it but if they don't then we have to take what we can ultimately and have to trust those at the top to do what's right cos it's them that have to make the big decisions not us. As much as I wish sometimes I could have a say in those I can't. Might be best that I don't have a say at the top probably though
Good luck keeping an unhappy player who has zero chance of playing in the World Cup because you’ve refused him a transfer. Sadly, when you’re relegated, and despite some of that responsibility falling on the players, they hold all the cards and the you don’t get true value. Rewind to 12 months ago and allegedly no offers came in for our star players. Because we could play hard ball and were vocal that we held all the cards - long contracts, Championship football, etc. With the bottom dropping out of the market for 12 months due to lockdowns we scared potential bidders off.
Just always seems to be us that get rubbish fees for players though........ Other clubs always manage to negotiate decent fees aside from us. Sick of it.
It really isn’t always us. We’re just way closer to our team and our players than we are others. As it should be.
I don't think it'll happen either. But let's flip the situation - how many international players for top 30 sides in their mid 20's get sold for under £6 million these days?
But we need to flip it back, because we need the money, we had a shocker of a season and got relegated, one year left on his contract, and he probably wants to go to make sure he stays in that top 30 nations squad
Feels like it is just us. Probably isn't but that's how it feels. I know they get mentioned every time in threads like this but Peterborough always seem to get sky high fees for their best players whenever they sell. We never seem to manage it though. Other clubs will get shafted just like us but just feels like we get the bad deal the majority of the time, just gets exhausting
we're not a 'top 30 side' though are we? potentially not even a 'top 50' side. we're a third tier side who just got relegated by 10 points. there's no way in a billion years, in the current climate, are we getting anywhere near £6m for any of our players.
I think other clubs are just better at getting the right noises out to their fans, like Peterborough and Toney being a prime example. Whereas when a decent fee is reported for any of our players, many choose to simply not believe it. E.g. Morris.
It just stinks. The club is a joke. The owners have money FFS. I can't believe how many people are sucking up their 5 hit. If we go bust it isn't because we didn't sell Helik and Styles it's because the owners are greedy ********.
A fair few if you start looking at those that are on the fringes of the Starting XI or just making their early steps in to International Football. Obviously not the star players or creative ones. Goalkeepers tend to go for decent money though. Seven caps but at least one as a sub for 60 seconds and a couple against San Marino (I think).
Peterborough lie, lie and lie about their transfer fees mate. Maybe exaggerate is a better word. I'd say they get better deals on their players than we do for sure, but doesn't excuse the fact about their exaggerations. And it does always feel like us, mate. That's because we're laser focused on just us. Everyday we're thinking about us, players, transfers, management, everything. We see a quick rumour or transfer on the BBC about other clubs and thats it, we assume the worst for our club
