"As well as being tear-gassed outside the ground, fans were robbed and assaulted by local troublemakers. It then emerged that CCTV footage had been wiped a week later because no request had been made to save it." Surely to god, common sense would be to keep it?
I know it’s clichéd, stereotypical and wrong, but I can’t help thinking that “Liverpool fans robbed” has a much better ring to it than “Dog bites man.”
And people wonder why Liverpool fans have a bit of a persecution complex - First response of authorities - blame Liverpool fans actually check what happens and its incometence and criminal negligence by the security/police it seems to be a common theme
Other than my visit to Liverpool in 1981 for the Cup game I've never had any problem with Liverpool fans. Them were different times. We had massive kick off in those days, without 19000, (reported figure), going that night. Rotherham / Donny & a few more. They have connected with us over Orgreave / Hillsborough & I've so many music friends over there who are Reds & Blues, who have always made me welcome. That includes our victory at Anfield in the Prem, where I was sat in the Kop. We ended up at a gig in York after the gig as well. Massive party. Liverpool are an easy target in my book.
Unfortunately for Liverpool fans, they do have a past and right or wrong, a notoriety in and around Europe . They did ransack many European cities in the 80's which led to the football casuals clothing phenomenon. Not the only club to do this I may had. There is also a dislike for the club amongst other fans this past 5 year plus. Akin to the Man Utd team of the 90's . There is far worse fans out there, just like millwall who seem to be given every excuse in the book when they cause issues
