"We must never hide from our history, and this memorial will be a talking point for generations to come. This is about inspiring, educating and informing people about someone who represents a significant part of Grantham’s heritage.”

Same understanding wasn't given in the following instances......

    https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...ve-traders-and-colonialists-removed-across-uk

and quite rightly so. I trust no legal action will follow against anyone, when the inevitable happens within the next 6 months ( tbh, I give it a week) and the statue is trashed and the council will have wasted a desperately needed elsewhere £300k.

When decisions have been taken to remove inappropriate tributes to figures consigned to history, seems madness to stick another one up.

I hated the Woman she wanted to take us back to the days when we had to doff our caps to anyone that had a few quid in bank .
Irrespective of that why would you want to put a statue of someone who divides opinions some of which are aggressively partisan either way .
Some people just want to rub others noses in **** for the sake of it .
I could understand a bust or a statue of her in a Conservative Club or institutions that wholeheartedly without exception adored her but to put something out there to rub a very big section of said society (a concept she despised by the way ) then reap the consequences imo .
I wouldn’t expect Barnsley council to put a statue of Arthur Scargill up for instance so why this fekin Bitch imo

Why would anyone want to see an Edwina Currie statue?

Recently there's been a great desire to remove statues of people with divisive morals, eg slavery.
Why the flip did they imagine that one of Thatcher would be a good idea? And then not to think that it would be immune from public scorn and derision.
Good for the goose, good for the gander.
