Someone mentioned why we only seem to produce defenders - this is the reason I stated. It really is a sad state of affairs when a club with seemingly limitless amounts of money can just hoover up every bit of potential, hopefully we can convince him to stay a few years, break into the first team and at least make a little bit of profit on him. I'd love for an academy graduate of great quality to stay at the club for more than 5 years
Me too - I know he's had injury problems so perhaps that's aided us in some morbid way. But I fear if he starts a few games, does well, it won't be long. I suppose it depends on how close the player feels to the club. I couldn't imagine leaving Barnsley if I were fortunate enough to play - but then when a 'big' club dangles thousands & thousands of pounds in front of you, I suppose you have to think about your family, and see it as just a job.
He should stay where he is. With us he'd have a clear path to the first team the way he's playing, which will put him in the shop window for bigger clubs like it did for academy lads like Stones and Holgate. Going to a big club now that hoards young talent he will find it harder to make a name for himself and have as much chance of ending up in the national league in a few years time.
https://www.barnsleychronicle.com/article/22949/reds-fight-to-keep-schoolboy-star-jalo Sir Bobby knows. He's got plenty of time to make good money. What he needs is first team Football and if he impresses then he will get more incentives to join a bigger club down the line. Yes he might make it but he should look at how few academy lads get a chance at our biggest clubs.
I completely agree mate. I don't doubt that's the best course of action for him, I just know snivelling agents won't think that way. Soon as they see he has a bit of potential, they'll all be clambering to be his agent. Hopefully Sir Bob of Hassellink can convince him patience is a virtue!
Obviously money talks so it will be tough if bigger clubs start circling. The bigger issue is how the club itself is perceived to these youngsters coming through, another season like wev just had on and off the pitch then i would imagine it would be in their best interests to go elsewhere.
The agent is supposed to act in the best interests of the player, when a player is so young they need expertise & guidance hence they use an agent a bit like we would employ a solicitor when buying an house , contracts can be complicated for a young lad who is really just out of school & no experience in working life although some agents have got questionable reputations to say the least .
Don’t hold your breath. I remember thinking/hoping the same when John Stones first broke into the team. He lasted half a season.
We might have to fast track this lad into the first team if we want to keep him and make some money on him.
Exactly. So the picaresque I want to earn a amount, I want to stay in the North, I want a Orem club etc and the agent acts for thrm. Agents shouldn't be pushing players into just going after the money so they make more comission. In the case of kids, then the parents need to be talking to their child and agent. Having a load of money as a youngster who then fails to make it as a footballer isn't necessarily a good thing imo.
See a lot of excuses been handed out. If they can't sell the club to Fabio and his family then people within the club and more closely the academy need to be examined and heavily criticised. Ronnie Branson kept hold of Stones Holgate Rose Clark and Bree who were wanted by clubs including Manchester United.
I refer you to this article https://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/news/2013/august/bree-staying-with-barnsley/ What aren't the club doing that they were. We shall split this into two. Ronnie Branson Quotes and quotes of James Bree. A pleased Academy Manager Ronnie Branson said, “James is being pursued by one of the biggest cubs in the country which is testament to him and the work that’s gone in throughout the Academy. “There’s a definite pathway into the first team here at Barnsley. That’s been proven by the likes of John Stones, Jacob Butterfield, Paul Digby, Danny Rose and Reuben Noble-Lazarus. “It’s up to us to show we’ve got a positive learning environment and try and keep players here rather than let them go to a big club where they’d become a small fish in a big pond.” In that Ronnie Branson says. *positive learning environment. * Desire to keep players * Pathway to the first team. I Would say it isn't a pathway to the first team as that's easier than ever and players that shouldn't have been given a chance were. So is it desire to keep the players at the club. If so that's damming on those at the club or haven't they kept a positive learning experience. If so again its not good enough. Second part. What did the player think. Might answer some of the above. “I just feel more comfortable at Barnsley at the moment and I think it’s the right decision for me to stay here,” revealed James. “There’s a better pathway for me into the first team. The Coaches in Ronnie (Branson), Chris (Howarth) and Mark (Burton) are all great with me and I just feel it’s right for me to stay. “They have brought a lot of players through here, so having an opportunity like this is great.” James in those quotes says that he likes how the club develop players to the first team and he also says he wants to stop because of the coaches quite interestingly. He also says that they get the best out of him. Why didn't Tom Wooster and maybe a Fabio Jalo or *********** player see that in the club now?
