justices well they're Rogers then, Huddersfield could never become a city! Donny doesn't have a uni either, can't think of it as a city, just like I'll never think of Derby as a city.
Didn't Swansea Town become Swansea City. I would expect Huddersfield and Northampton to do the same if given City status.
Bizarre fact Doncaster is one of the most popular British destinations for day tourists. which looks good till you realise it’s cos loads of people come for Wildlife Park, Races, airport, but never want to stay the night
Apparently the requirement to have a cathedral was removed in the 19th century. Something I learned today.
Courtesy of google Historically, cities were settlements with a cathedral, and those places remain cities. Therefore, many settlements that are now comparatively small, such as Ely, Wells, or Salisbury, have long had city status. A cathedral is not a requirement for city status to be conferred, though Birmingham was the first town without a cathedral to become a city, in 1889. Birmingham town f.c. doesn't have that ring to it for me. Could tha imagine if we got it. A tha gooin tut city. Stick tut tarn.
Doncaster is the largest Metropolitan borough in England by area apparently, also bigger than Sheffield ( I think) .
I suppose it gives the illusion of being bigger, and when people think bigger they think better. I'm surprised the Massives haven't built their own cathedral and applied for the suburb of Hillsborough to be granted city status. Or perhaps they'd take it a step further, ring-fence Hillsborough and go for fully independent nation-state, a bit like the Vatican.
Can just imagine Dejphon in the confessional booth. 'Forgive me father, for I have sinned.' It would be quite the stack of hail Mary's!
Whereas ManUre actually play in Salford which is a City, whilst still maintaining the name of a neighbouring city.
