Under the 1985 companies act it was an offence to use company funds to buy shares in a limited company. The 2006 companies act revised this so it was only an offence in public limited companies not private ones. The picture is a bit murky where a public company is using a subsidiary funds to buy shares in a private company. Like red rain says it should have been a director's loan.
Mansplaining? Disappointed if that’s aimed at me. I simply disagree with your analysis of the Mowatt situation.
If Schmidt could be sold, he would have been sold already. As for Victor, you can’t demand a fee for a player that’s out of contract. You don’t actually have a clue do you?
This is precisely my point in the original post. We will be stuck with the likes of Schmidt, Leya Iseka, Obbi, Benson becuase it would be impossible to find a club that would take on their wages. The only way PS has got games this year is to loan him to a sister club for free- and even then he's not torn up any trees.
I'm jiggered reading some of this thread. Weren't we told that last season was a failure because we had no offers for our players? How can you sell (or not sell) someone if there's no offers!?! Or was that a lie?
Honestly I think some of the players we are assuming we will sell we might struggle. Anyone want to pay a million plus for a striker on 350-400k a year that's scored 4 in 26 at age 27 with more injuries than the USS enterprise? No? Well we can sell you a ball playing left sided centre half who's right footed with a 65% passing average and played in the divisions worse defence- for 2 million?
If you name your asking price and the buying club doesn’t like it, you’re then left with no offers. Dane Murphy was pretty consistent from January onwards that we held all the cards on selling players and it would need silly money to make us part with any. Aren’t those the type of statements we’ve been begging the club to put out for years when we all complain that other clubs do so much better at getting the best value for their players? We really do flip and flop on here opinion wise. I get it right now though given the last nine months.
We do hold the cards, the problem now is the game has changed from blackjack to cheat. Clubs know we need to sell to stay afloat. Take Helik for example; excellent individual statistics so we say "right he's available for £3 million"- but a buying club knows we will have to accept anything 7 figures just to stay in business. So we either accept it and the fans will riot or risk serious cash flow issues. The trick we missed to invest a mill in Tom Trybull or someone instead of Benson and Cooper instead of Schopp. Then we would have stayed up most likely and a player like Helik would be worth 5/7 million even and secured the club's future. So in that case I don't think we flip flop Loko- we just want the club run well
We don’t hold the cards now sadly. I think you misunderstood my post or I wasn’t clear - apologies if the latter. I don’t believe club’s will assume we have to accept anything just to stay in business. I’m not buying that at all.
I think my point was more that we are over valuing the players now, as you say we don't hold the cards- or do but need to get did of them. I believe our CEO actually said that we needed to change the squad structure of we lost out on championship revenue. True we might not accept 'anything' but last year we might have reckoned on selling styles for 3-5 million at least. No one would pay that now to a selling club for a midfielder and set peice specialist with one assist in 40 starts. He might be worth a million, but then again to who?
We turned down £1.5m in January for Styles. That’s where I’d expect his transfer fee to be with some add ons and I’d expect interest now he’s made his international debut. Is he a set piece specialist though?
Ironically while we were scouting Schmidt the lad up front for Blackpool, Beesley was playing half a mile up the road for Shaw Lane...
Do you reckon he is worth that now then? The international debut was for Hungary and his personal stats are pretty piss poor in a side that's gone down bottom. It's also not quite clear what his best position is? It's more likely a club will try and get a discount on that 1.5 no?
If someone was offering that four months ago I don’t believe anything has changed, given he went on to play for Hungary and he’s under contract still.
I'd say there's been some changes... His poor performances? Our relegation and subsequent cash flow issues? The fact the contract is now 6 months shorter? He's a league one player again ultimately. Maybe you are right but I would be surprised if we got anything over £1 million in gauranteed money.
Unless that bid was very late in the window, no idea why we would turn it down? We needed to sell someone to get funds to bring the central midfielder that we needed in.
