To be fair though, you arguably take it too far the other way. I personally think you actively object to it BECAUSE they're ex-players. You cited Neil Critchley previously.
Limited playing career at Crewe, before serving under Gradi in the coaching setup for about 10 years. Went down the road to Liverpool with the U18s. Moved up to 23s, earned his stripes, got his chance withe First Team setup, before moving to Blackpool.

How is that wildly different from say, Adam Hammill, joining the coaching staff with the youth setup, then earning his way through the coaching ranks? Neil Critchley didn't retire at 24 and instantly become a Championship coach. He was given an opportunity to earn his stripes - and that started at his Club.

You are likely right. But when people are saying different things about 2 people because they liked one because of things that are nothing to do with the role then that's a problem for me.

I remember speaking to people about Danny Wilson and they couldn't tell me why he was on the job on that day.
Remember also been quite angry with Ben Mansford a day or two after the defeat down at watford. Told him He WILL sack him within 12 month. Think he lasted 9 or 10.

The same every time though innit. Get Glavin in, get Redders in, get Big Mick in. You can see why they say it, even though it would be the wrong thing to do.

Totally don't think Adam Hammill would be qualified to be part of first team setup, but I think there's lots of reasons why it would be good to give him opportunity to earn his badges here, and go from there.

There's a very long list of ex-players getting top coaching jobs, with no coaching experience. Those are a lot madder for me, than the idea of an ex-player returning to a former club to get their badges and work their way up.

Yes. My fear, they appoint one of these names because they think fans will get behind it.

Hourihane. Would be another thinking back. He was someone that speaks very well. But he can't just go into the first team I don't think when he finishes.

Bigger fear would be going with yet another unproven European name with zero English football league knowhow. Simply cannot take that risk again for me, after the last two disastrous gambles.
