Poor crowd every day but that’s what you get when a county side plays outside the county boundary I suppose. Only time they get decent crowds is when they play at Cheltenham College during the Festival. I doubt if many Bristolians identify with Gloucestershire any more, if they ever did
Taking 14 rather than 13 away this week. Having the Sri Lanka captain for three games before he goes to play a couple of tests against Bangladesh will boost a batting line up missing Cadmore, Root, Bairstow and Balance. Interesting other centrally contracted players are able to play tomorrow but not Root. Dunno what's happened to Coad who last week was one of the two missing out but not in at all this week.
I really like Karunaratne he’s a quality player but top order asian batters don’t tend to do well in April in England.
https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/...ire-for-short-term-championship-stint-1311514 His record is excellent.... * 5th in the test batting rankings. * 5 centuries in his last eight tests. * Career best 244 twelve months ago. * 39.57 test batting average. * 14 test match centuries. Some on social media think he's signed because of the Rafiq mess which is nonsense. He's signed on merit and should be playing with Root in two of his three games fingers crossed. Really hope he doesn't flop.
Ben Coad is recovering from a groin injury that he sustained on pre-season tour in Dubai and aggravated ahead of the opening game last week.
Yorks have won toss and will bat at Northants. We’re playing 2 overseas players as it’s allowed now. Root has won Wisdens leading Cricketer of the year award.
It is uncommon but he’s only 3 games to play so as long as it works ….. like it didn’t today !!! Commentator said Fisher was “sore” after weekend but not injured. I know he had loads of injuries a couple of years ago so hopefully he’s not going to be like Robinson and Wood. Fred Trueman could bowl forever and had very few injuries sithee
275-9 having played an extra batsman and chosen to bat first on what looks a decent if slow-paced track against a friendly looking mostly medium paced attack led by a bloke Yorkshire dumped 11 years ago. It'll be interesting to see how Northants go on this track but Yorkshire have played some terrible shots to get out particularly chopping on balls too close to cut and playing across the line. Another good knock from Brook thankfully but even his demise was disappointing - we could be in deep trouble if he gets picked for England - and Thompson before he played round a straight one. Malan also got 50 after being dropped on 0.
296 all out - really poor cricket from Haris Rauf with just four runs needed to get another batting bonus point. Massive irresponsible and selfish yahoo leaves Matt Revis high and dry on 31 not out. I hope Ottis Gibson reads Rauf the riot act.
