I’d given up on this season so didn’t go today. Had a lovely day out at Canon Hall with the Fam. I don’t honestly see me having a season ticket next year and don’t see me going again this.
Always a crazy choice. There were good odds on Poya pre-Ismael; I remember because when Schopp was sacked, I tried like fück to remember this obscure Swedish coach’s weird name so I could put a 10er on him, as a joke. And then he went and got the job. Anyway, Jack Aitchison to bang 20+ next season, Accrington away, no World Cup break, and a lovely organic vineyard in the Cotswolds I’m looking forward to visiting pre-Forest Green next season.
Big fan of all this. I actually had £10 on Poya when he was first linked (Struber time) and then again when Val got the job. I didn’t bet on him the only time he actually got it.
The flatbreads looked absolutely chop-dribbleous!! People were enviously seeing them in the grasp of various purchasers, and instinctively leaving their seats as though they'd witnessed a revelation and must go worship down the bowels (of the stadium) at the shrine of the succulent supper. Already sadly full from a chicken and bacon sarnie, I had to watch glutenous consumption. A head rise away from the grub, they scored twice and we didn't score at all. We all knew we'd not score today, after watching for 10 mins or so. Didn't we?
When we sacked Schopp we had time to turn it round. We messed up with that appointment again big time.
Not seen the game today, so can’t comment on this defeat specifically. But we’ve got nearly half of our points in an 8 game purple patch that started when we were well adrift. The fact that we got to within 2 points of safety, then followed that up with a run of 2 points in 5 games, including a couple of six pointers at home says a lot about the (lack of) character of this group of players imo. Which is backed up by our general reaction to going behind. And they shouldn’t be able to hide behind the board or the coach on that. It’s on them. The fact that we have to fetch in £8m for our contracted players is a terrifying one.
And warnock was sacked by boro at a similar time as Schopp. The club underestimate the scale of the fire that needed fighting
A 'striker' averaging 0.07 goals per game over 7 seasons playing in all tiers from National League up to Championship. 0.07, that's less than a third as good as Dave Regis!!! Surely, somebody will twig!?!
While I'm not going to praise his strike rate, that stat is very unfair. He's scored 9 goals and made 34 starts. The 0.07 includes his 84 sub appearances.
Yep, possibly a bit but of his 9 goals I think the split between starts and sub appearances is pretty similar and his strike rate in starts is then still only 0.11 goals per game - which probably explains why he's been a sub so much! Either way he's never scored more than 4 in a season and ain't worth another contract imho.
I'm not claiming him to be a good player or making a case to re-sign him. I like the lad but he just doesn't have the quality for the Championship, and I don't think he has it for League 1 either. Not if your team has any aspirations of promotion from that league anyway. I think we should thank him for all his efforts and release him. But I do think it does him a disservice to calculate his goals per game ratio and include sub appearances. Many of those were just for a few minutes.
