Just had a pub discussion about an all time 11 who were with us through the system. Who is yours. We came up with this. Watson Eaden Stones Tiler Holgate Morgan Brown Banks Agnew Hirst Taylor I'm sure there's a million combinations. Interesting conversation and debate with some notable exceptions.
We had consideration for Butterfield Moses Liddell Flinders McCarthy Winstanley etc as well We were unsure about Joyce Chambers.
To be honest if you are going back in time one of the best left backs we have produced was Eric Brookes & of course not long after Dave Booth , but I thought Eric Brookes was a bit special .
Can’t beat a good pub discussion ,dieing thing now though ,everyone mostly discussing stuff on social media
Joe Joyce and Phil Chambers were both youth players at Oakwell so definitely in. Don’t think we developed many left backs, I can only remember Phil? John Beresford and Mark Robinson were both “imports”
If Joyce Chambers ever played for us it would have been unique. Can find no record of her in the Alumni
Eric was a very good player. But my most defining memory of him. Was George Best giving him the runaround when playing for Northampton.
Too right. I should have added that. I class George Best as the greatest player of all time. I had the privilege to see him play.
So did I , in fact the first time was against us at Oakwell when they beat us 4 v 0 in the 5th round of the FA cup & in the late sixties I went to Bramhall Lane & watched him torment the Blades , also I am with you about George being the greatest player of all time , he is certainly my choice .
