    Boo-ing Harry Magure ? I just don't get it.

    1. You've chosen to go to a friendly - so the result doesn't matter so much - why the hate?
    2. He's never really let England down
    3. He's been crap for Man Utd - so why is everyone else boo-ing? Surely unless you're a Man Utd fan, you're pleased he's crap for Man Utd.

Are people really turning out for a friendly to boo one of our own players?

Sometimes I really don't get football fans.

Was minimal but obvious. Maybe sounded worse on TV but the person stood next to me didn't even realise. And he was cheered throughout the game by the thousands of youngsters there.

I'd rather focus on the positives. The amount of young kids who idolise these players in a way I've not really seen in my lifetime is a moment to cherish. They absolutely love filling out Wembley, and Gareth Southgate deserves a lot of credit for that. Not many International teams get close to 75,000 for their second International Friendly in five days against someone like the Ivory Coast. In a world where so many people get ticketing and pricing wrong, Wembley and England have got it right for many years. £60 for two adults and a child behind the goal is just superb.

They might get the pricing right, but It’s a shame they didn’t get everything right for the Euro’s with the security debacle

Agree. But you can criticise and credit in isolation.

Learn from your mistakes though, and they’ve definitely done that, and will still land a major tournament this decade which is great for the youngsters adopting England as their team right now.

    No

Minimal but obvious? So obvious to people listening on the radio, like I was, and presumably obvious to the England player in question.

I'm not disputing the positives you mention, and absolutely Southgate deserves tons of credit, but there is no (football) justification for turning up to an England game to boo a player before he's even kicked a ball.

Southgate made a very pertinent point when commenting on the criticisms, when he mentioned about these criticisms of the players being fed by ex players etc. When John Stones was going through that rough patch a couple of years ago, Shearer and others were laying into him, Martin Tyler and the Sky lot were analysing every mistake Stones made which is what they do but it was unbalanced as they often overlooked/failed to mention any positives he did. Coincidentally, Maguire was actually fighting Stones corner.

Come on. I’m hardly talking in code. There was minimal booing but you could hear it is all I’m saying. I also pointed out it might have come across louder on TV/Radio than it actually was at the game - and sighted the person I was with as evidence of that who didn’t even realise.

I agree by the way. To Jordan Henderson’s point, that’s not the England I’ve known for the last six years or so and booing one of your own. Needs stamping out but it was a tiny minority.

This is something I mentioned a few weeks ago in a thread about Maguire. I'm no fan of Maguire's but the treatment he's getting is horrible and he's very much the player that is getting micro analysed, in the same way Stones was a couple of years ago.
Why we have to absolutely torment our own players to this extent, I have no idea, but punditry does not help.

I think you actually may be talking in code. You've just posted to tell me that you agree, minimal booing doesn't count even though we can hear it on the radio, because your mate didn't notice it? Or something. I think you were agreeing with me, but something to do with me not being in the stadium.

Southgate has come out and defended Maguire, calling the booing an absolute joke. Henderson and Grealish also speaking out in his defence and rightly so. It doesn't make any sense, he may not be playing well for his club, but how is booing going to motivate him for his country? I don't agree with booing in the main anyway, but he has been a great centre back for England and deserves better. As Southgate said, we should all be in it together.

Not just England fans, not even only football. The number of bell ends in society who believe that their right to free speech gives them freedom to abuse and bully is astonishing and appears to be growing.

Remember similar treatment of John Barnes in the late 80s/early 90s for England.

I think the mistake we make is that we regard these people as fans, what they predominantly are is,,,,,,,, cockneys. Once we get our heads around that, everything will fall into place and we’ll realise that they’re not worthy of our comments.

I thought a cockney was someone born in East London, particularly within the sound of the Bow Bells?

Though given the development across that region and inbound migration, I'm not sure there are many people who would traditionally fit the mould of "cockney".
