From Grenada 2pm our time on Thursday.

First two tests played out to be draws on very slow wickets. Will the last test be much the same?

As fair as the starting 11 goes i think the first 7 should remaint he same as everyone has contributed one way or another with the bat. The only changes i would make would be with the bowling. Surely the time has come for Woakes to no longer be an overseas bowling requirement and at 33 years of age his time most be coming to a close. Also i would consider leaving out Fisher for this test. Lots of hard work and endeavour but just lacking in the step up from county level to international standard.

I would go with the following-

    Crawley
    Lees
    Root
    Lawrence
    Stokes
    Bairstow
    Foakes
Robinson (hearing he is fit to play)
    Leach
Parkinson (the back up spinner deserves his chance especially on potentially a wicket not ideal for quick/medium paced bowling)
    Mahmood

I thought Fisher looked good and would play him ahead of either Robinson or Mahmoud, depending on Robinsons fitness.
A team with Robinson and Stokes is in bother if they both break down. The pitch would suggest a similar outcome I reckon

    Overton will play I think.
Parkinson should be given a chance but we seem to be wary of leggies. Rashid would be an exception but he’s jacked in … or is he to reconsider ?

I agree that Woakes’s days may be over in tests, but who knows when you look at his home form and the injury prone contenders.

The wickets in the first tests have made it a bit of a toil to bowl. Reckon it'll be another draw. Has that ever happened before (discounting massive weather loss)?!?

Do you mean for a 3 match series between England and the Windies ?
I would think it would be very scarce.

West Indies drew a series against Sri Lanka last year but it was only 2 games.

I'd take another draw and maybe Lawrence to break his century duck. I never thought for once this series was about winning. A nice warm run out to try and get the batsman's confidence up. You only have to look at the West Indian wickets and the England selection to realise it's a batting jolly.

Reports are that the pitch is looking a bit more lively, so Parkinson's chances of a game are slim. Criminal that he didn't play in either of the first two tests, given the amount of overs of spin there were.

Funny, they could turn out fast tracks in the seventies when they had a proper pace battery

I was thinking in general. Like a 5 test series for instance Sri Lanka v India or NZ v England. Know this is only 3 but wonder what odds would have been on 3 draws ?!?

I can't recall a full house of draws in my time.

    Me neither ….

In the afternoon of the 1st day , I said that it would be over in 3 days but how wrong could I have been !

I suppose, in real terms , it would have been multiplied odds for 3 stalemates…… 50/1 or more ?

It could be, but I severely doubt it. He's still the best man for the job. His stats are still very solid. Or, put it another way, who would take over? Nobody inspires me with any confidence. So it's Root's for the foreseeable.

You've nailed the issue. Who would take over?

He's a poor captain. He's the only great batsmen we've got who has been carrying the rest for a good few years now. So as a result, he's the only certainty to play and he gets the captaincy by default.

    Robinson still not fit.

Overton for Fisher appears to be the only change.

If Robinson wants to have a test career he needs to vastly improve his fitness levels full stop.

He's miles behind the rest of the squad, and the pace he bowls at as the day goes on is laughable.

39 wickets in 9 tests shows he has the ability.

Other things he clearly needs to work on.

    Don't deny the ability.

If he wants a proper test career though, then he needs to improve his professionalism big time.
