I think this highlights package puts paid to the "but they had chances" argument. They might've had a couple of chances, but us winning by a wider margin would've been a fairer reflection of the game. The fact that a team starts to show more urgency when 2-0 down towards the end of the game doesn't change that. I was still a nervous wreck watching it live though.
The Weimann chance was the best of the game. The chances we took were an unlikely precise shoulder pass missing 4 Bristol City players and bobbling through to Morris 3 yards out and then a corner (which seemed quite close if it went out or not, I suspect it probably did) which the whole Bristol City defence chose to leave to Helik to have a free go at a goal. Good header mind you. But if we tried a hundred times to re-enact that exact same scenario to get 2 goals... I'm plumping on us not managing it. Just like I suspect Weimann probably buries that chance more times than he misses.
Good post-match interview with Poya. He mentions about everyone not losing faith even when we were down to 10 first team players because of. Ovid and injuries and losing games,so they’re not likely to lose faith now.
The Bristol City defence left Helik because people blocking defenders allowed him to make the run to the front post. Weimann's was a good chance. As were the Gomes and Quina's chances. I'd back Quina to hit the target more often than not from there.
I didn't feel we were going to score again and having watched the extended highlights just now, there were a few more Bristol chances than I remembered. Gomes' one was a decent chance, but his route to goal was quite congested and hitting it first time was difficult. And then the others were all speculative hits. I think we just edged it but for our generally better possession, we didn't really carve much out that was clear cut. And thats been our problem all season really.
His miss and the build up play was very similar to the miss Harry Wilson did for Fulham at the weekend. The ball didn't look to be touching the white line for the Bassi corner for the second goal.
Some really decent efforts from Barnsley in that second half.. "Barnsley have been excellent, Bristol City woeful", "Barnsley thoroughly deserve their victory", quoth the unbiased commentator who has no agenda.
I thought we hardly let Bristol City have the ball first half. My most comfortable match this season, after the Fulham match I went expecting a win and we got one.
Just curious has anyone got the expected goals from this game - Not watched the highlights again but from the stats Bristol had more shots than us but less on target I thought we had more decent chances than they did
I go along with what @Redhelen said, comfortable win. Incidentally I saw the highlights on youtube which had Brizzle's commentary and they said we were well worth the win.
I think we had some decent chances, but there were also one or two moments where we got the ball into the box in wider areas, and they needed some last ditch defending to stop us getting a tap in.
