Heard a Ukrainian restaurant was appealing for aid for refugees on the Polish border. Went down there this morning about 10 minutes after it opened. Bloody hell. A tail back of cars unloading stuff, folk of every age and with carrier bags, stuff piled up outside the shop like it had been hit by a tidal wave. Big bags of rice pasta baby food, clothing, sleeping bags, clothes, toys stuff and more stuff. Lads boxing it up as fast as they can and loading into vans that were coming and going as fast as they could be loaded. Sometimes you wonder if the bit you do is ever going to make a difference and then you see that and you think yes it will. For everyone it was just a case of dropping off and leaving, no one talking much. Until one voice made everyone turn round. “Don’t even ******* think about it mate! There was a traffic warden eyeing up the cars pulled up on a double yellow. He slunk off. Sometime I despair of the British. This was the British at their best.
Well done everyone. Me and the missus has just got together 3 massive bags full of clothes and toiletries to donate. Hope the little we can do helps where it can.
Mrs took some stuff to Wombwell lane yesterday, said something about a former Polish firefighter collecting stuff for Ukraine. I went to circuit training at Oakwell Tuesday in Yelow shirt blue shorts and socks, at Fit Reds tonight instead of Red & White teams it’s Blue v Yellow tonight inside anyway.
There was a van driver on Radio 5 this morning, he's driven over to Poland and is driving people from the border to Warsaw (a 5 hour drive) then driving back to pick up some more. Well done that man, we CAN be the best.
The current Mrs DR donated Nappies and sanitary stuff today in Didcot. I donated to the International Red Cross appeal. Meanwhile in Afghanistan people are selling their kidneys to feed their families. Dispite all the problems we have in this country we have won the being born in the right place lottery.
