We just have a really poor squad/team led by poor management at both head coach and senior levels of the football club.
did you read one tweet and quote a completely different one. How did u get the thread title from that tweet
I think in that example, it’s more likely that the successive head coaches froze ICD out, simply because he isn’t good enough for first team football. On the other players you named, Halme has been hampered by injury, but featured pretty regularly last season. Bahre was made club captain, but then Struber stopped picking him. Schmidt was never good enough, as is showing with our inability to get him off the books. Green also wasn’t good enough. I don’t think there was a board level decision to freeze any of them out.
Not really. And especially not moon. When did he last feature in a league game before Saturday? When he has played, it’s been because a number of players were unavailable. Then he came on on Saturday because of a Poya brainfart. Plus, it would make more sense for the club to want to push for both Sibbick and Kitching ahead of him, given we paid transfer fees for them, and they were probably on higher wages.
At what? You can’t mean football? If J and B Williams were so much better than Cavare and Pinillos, why did they barely play in the promotion season? Cavare was a defender who actively avoided defending half the time. Pinillos looked like he was running through treacle sometimes. I’d have still played them over the Williams’. And so would Stendel had he been allowed to. Cavare was in the league one team of the season voted for by fellow pros - and never made another appearance. Scraps and bus arguments (allegedly) aside - there is a reason for that. I don’t think the owners pick the team. But I think it very naive to think they have no say on such matters at all when they are on public record saying they do exactly that at some of our ‘sister’ clubs.
Cavare was absolutely pathetic in the championship, and no ***** owners or agenda can tell me otherwise. Jordan Williams is twice the player Cavare is. There is a lot to throw at these **** owners, but suggesting they chose J Williams over Cavare has proved correct to me.
Cavare was pathetic in the championship? You are judging this from the total of nine appearances he made at the end of 17/18, mainly under Jose ‘the pussycat’ Morais? Because that’s the only time he played right back apart from I think once in 19/20. Was he as good as Andy Yiadom when he first came in during the 17/18 relegation season? Course he bloody wasn’t. But he wasn’t the worst player in that squad. Did you think Kieffer Moore looked good in the championship in that period? Looks ok now. Remember it was Toby Sibbick who started 19/20 at right back. A kid just brought from Wimbledon. Cavare was whacked out at left back, then barely played after, the only run he got was on the wing. And that was only for five or six games.
Every one has their own thoughts on players but twice the player, really?? Jordan Williams is an average league 1 player at best, we invested in the wrong player in my opinion.
When did he last feature before Saturday? Well that would be 3 games ago before he got injured. Kinda hard to play him when he's injured. I wasn't talking specifically about moon though was I. I asked if you believe the owners put any pressure on their head coaches to play certain players of their choosing? Before answering that I'd like to remind you that Paul Conway has admitted to doing this
While I don't think that quote is direct proof of board level selection of a team, as others have said, it does infer that some general influence may be exerted. Conway has certainly flapped his lips before to boast of outing of older experienced players to introduce young players at multiple clubs.
Starting to read like a cross examination Moon was an unused sub in two of those three games, so I'm not sure he was injured, and he got some games in January when we were down to the bare bones. If the coach was being coerced into picking Moon, we wouldn't have seen Williams playing centre back and Styles at right wing back. I think the owners influence on players playing is in the form of the recruitment. We didn't replace Sollbauer, because of the complacent theory that half a season of playing 60 or 30 minutes had meant that Sibbick was now an established first teamer. That left us with Andersen and Helik plus Sibbick, Kitching, Halme and Moon to pick from in a back three. Sibbick started the season, but I think behind the scenes / disciplinary issues that led to his departure. Kitching was next in line while Andersen was injured, which left Moon and Halme, the latter of which has had his own injury problems. And to be honest, they're all error prone. Moon is playing occaisionally because we are a central defender light. Who else are the owners influencing play? Collins, Helik, Andersen, Brittain, Styles, Morris, Quina and Bassi pretty much pick themselves now, with the rest in and out of the team, and the ones to emerge are probably the other two loan signings. So, no, I don't think the owners are having any real influence on who to pick, beyond recruiting the squad. A poor substitution on 82 minutes doesn't change that, nor does Conway gobbing off about how brilliant his data is.
I agree with all this. But there is a but The owners, usually voiced by Paul Conway as nominated spokesperson, have, on multiple occasions, expressed how they want the team to play. They appoint the Head Coach based on that desired playing style and presumably sign players to fit into that model. Our style of play is dictated by the owners not the head coach. What if the head coach has the team playing a different way? Are the owners completely hands off once the coach is in place and the players are signed or do they continue to exert influence? I don't know. No idea. The one thing I would say is that you can't legitimately claim you're going to do something a particular way if have no influence in how it is to be done.
And remember con way has literally out right said that they pressured one of their coaches to pick the players they wanted not the players he was picking himself
