My wife of 40 years has just described some kitchen tiles she was looking disapprovingly at as 'Jimpy edged' Since she is a Barnsley lass I can only assume it is one of those Yorkshire-isms she confounds me with every few years (in spite of having lived in Barnsley for over 40 years) but given I am an 'outsider' born in London can someone on here give me a clue?
I’m late 50’s and from the from north end of Barnsley and it’s not something that I’ve heard anybody that I know say before. Might be specific to whichever area in town she’s from?
Not smooth. Uneven. Could be used to describe a rough edge or something with a kind of corrugated edge to it.
Apparently so. They were kitchen tiles that were neither straight edged or 'rustic' wavy sides like some Spanish ones we used to have. They looked almost serrated. Are you an 'ex' she has never mentioned?
