I agree it’s not always straight forward, but January last year he was either signing a new contract or not. There is no other alternative, so if he was signing then whoever changed their mind it’s down to them, that reason may well be justified. The fact he went straight to Forest suggests strongly it was not about a Visa issue. Equally if he wasn’t signing we had plenty of time to have someone lined up instead of having to wait until the new CEO had worked his notice.
Not easy but usually, rather than always, easier to renew than get a new one. I guess comparing to your example, at least thinking critically, surely it’s a renewal you know needs to happen and you’ve lined it all up well in advance? Especially knowing that if a replacement is needed it’s likely any appointment would need to work their own three month notice or apply for their own Visa. I bet there’s an explanation for it all that makes more sense, but at the moment I look back and it just looks absolutely amateur and negligent to have such a senior role essentially walk out like that at arguably the most critical time of the season.
On balance I have to agree. I’m trying to be wary of criticising the 80% on every issue so probably giving them too much leeway on this where as you say either way they should have been on top of things.
Good post and I get your point. I do feel that supporting BFC is completely different to other Liesure activities and sentiment goes a long way further than what these owners have put us through ie half a poor season following last season as one of the best in our history. To go down the Blackpool route is jumping on the bandwagon so Barnsley supporters get their 15 minutes of fame. I for one have enough sentiment towards the club to stand up for what I believe. The supporters are not helping the current situation. Without the support the club goes downwards quicker and further.. Chicken and egg which comes first supporters or success.
Last season, Luton and Blackpool were looking at us and wishing they could be like Barnsley. The only thing that’s really different this season is that we’re crap on the pitch.
Utter drivel. There's an increasing number of supporters who are staying away, many of whom have been diehard season ticket holders for decades. You're not seriously suggesting that they're doing so because they're narcissists? @JLWBigLil? @Stahlrost? @Jay? Fans like these don't take such decisions lightly and certainly not to have "15 minutes of fame". You should be ashamed of yourself writing **** like that.
Well blackpool had a good season themselves in league one i know. We signed sol under struber matty james hardly played under val. We have signed no one like that this season when we needed a experienced head coach we appoint a 36 year old
Asbaghi has been a head coach for 5 years before joining us. That’s more experience than Struber had. The fact that he’s only 36 is just a reflection that he started coaching at a young age.
The same as Ismael, unless you want to include a brief stint as a player, in a different league, 24 years ago.
Fair enough its going really well with his 0% win ratio and his similar style of play to schopp. Has poya achived anything previously in managment? When schopp left i would have liked us to appoint a head coach/manager who had managed in England before and given the job untill the end of season to try get us out of the mess and get a few wins. Schopps appointment was also never going to work coming from a league equivalent to the english conference and unable to bring his coaching team with him.
I thought we should have approached Warnock, and if he'd have taken it I would've given him control over transfers with an agreed budget. (Which it appears would've been precisely zero, until he could sell any players). The only point I was making was that we can't dismiss Asbaghi's experience because of his age, because if he'd had the same coaching career starting at age 36, we wouldn't be bemoaning bringing in a 43 year old (2 years as an assistant + 5 as head coach). Similarly, we can't really dismiss the Austrian league, after getting Stendel, Struber and Ismael. Biggest issue with Schopp's appointment, as well as inability to recruit his staff as well, was the style of play that he adopted at previous clubs. And that is the main issue I have with Asbaghi's appointment, rather than his experience.
Agree about warnock kept rotherham up a few years back in similar circumstances. Schopp was a poor appointment and shouldnt have happened in the summer but the style of ply change hasnt helped either
I don't disagree with anyone who says the style of play changing hasn't helped. Val's style just clicked with us and our young squad of players. Helped by not having supporters obviously, but also not asking them to ever allow themselves to be under any pressure and playing to the strengths of the forwards (once we signed Dike and Morris). The only question I keep asking everyone I speak to is who was out there in the Summer that could have maintained that style? It isn't the preferred way of playing football for any team that I see or hear about. Some times matched up against us as a one off, but 'vertical football' in Val's form wasn't common was it? We'd have potentially had to ask someone to come in and replicate a style that wasn't their preferred way of playing. That's why I thought we were almost universally expecting to be tweaking how we play somewhat, but that with results being so catastrophic it's now a huge issue.
I know what you mean it was quite obvious from vals interview after the swansea game he would be leaving. So i did expect the style to change a little but its sort of gone the exact opposite vals style was to play football in the opposing half schopps looked more like he wanted to keep the ball in our half at times and same with poya the attacks are slow and ponderous we play with little width. The real shocker was when they actually said they changed the style as they recived no bids and the possesion stuff increases player value thats all well and good but were barnsley not man city play to your strengths.
Someone might find the exact quote and correct me, but did we say that we changed the style because we didn't we receive any bids? Or was it more along the lines of us believing, as a strategy, that you enhance player value with a more attractive playing style and it was an interesting that despite a successful season we didn't receive any bids for our players? Other than Chaplin (and the Head Coach). I think Val was unique we were trapped in an impossible position but made an even bigger mess of it then anyone could have expected.
To say there supposed to be experienced investors they ain’t half made a pigs ear of trying to do it in football. We were ripe for an investor that knew at least a little bit about English football . We didn’t pay big wages , we weren’t swimming in debt , we always punched above our weight with fans accepting most sales with shrewd investment into lower league players being given a chance . These investors have expected too much too soon from their investment imo and instead of building the infrastructure and building steadily they’ve tried to rinse it fir all its worth . Also they’ve expected high player sales from little or no understanding of the transfer market . Trying to gel a team of lower league and academy youngsters en bloc without assessing the quality of these lower league players has stitched everybody at the club up . We’re seeing some of our early buys and academy players consolidate into regular championship players because we offloaded them too quickly or first sight of a transfer fee . If we gonn buy young and cheap all the time then we doomed as a Championship club . We need a restart from our owners imo or if there’s a viable alternative with a decent plan and knowledge of the game they should sell . I don’t hold out much for the latter so a acknowledgement from the owners on their mismanagement and start again .
Absolutely back up what Loko says here, including the fact that he asked the CEO what he says he did!
