You’re thinking in costs but this would be revenue. Of course it doesn’t cost that a year otherwise we’d all be paying £60 a ticket to watch a game.
Jeez, I’ve got the other guy accusing me of speculating and you wanting me to engage in speculation – can’t win I think my first post used items that are in the public domain from eg published accounts and are consistent with the authoritative post by Archerfield. Moreover, bear in mind the costs of Covid will (hopefully) be largely non-recurrent and therefore whilst needing to be addressed on that basis not something that should unduly influence the ongoing and future management of the club and its finances, nor imho judgements on it and arguments about it. I didn’t want to get into speculative stuff but here goes. Yes, undoubtedly there will have been costs of Covid but what they are neither you nor I know. However, equally it would seem that there have been reductions in wage costs which should offset all, or in part. Over the last year the club has lost the substantial wages of Mowatt, Sollbauer, Frieser, Ritzmaier, Chaplin, Simoes and Ben Williams. Schmidt, Kane, Miller and Thomas would all also have been on first-team wage levels and it would be reasonable to assume that their loan fees received cover the vast majority if not all of their wages. The club also has loaned out Aitchison and a number of others eg to Esbjerg which should reduce/cover their costs and released a few lower earners, eg Bramall, Omar. Against this we have brought in just Oulare, Iseka and Benson on first-team salaries as far as I can guess and Hondermarck on an U23 contract. We have the loan fees for Gomes and Vita too. I don’t know, of course, but the sum total of all those payroll transactions would seem to have reduced it by a substantial sum. If not that would seem to support the main point of the owners’ mismanagement! There have also been one-off savings from eg the senior staff vacancies (CEO etc), the reduction in coaching and support staff (eg Val had Murray, Laumann and Eckert, Poya only has his pal and Laumann). In terms of transfers, we have significant receipts for Val and his staff and Chaplin (not sure if we got ought for Soll). Against this we have a release fee for Poya and fee and pay-off for Schopp and whatever Iseka and Benson cost (Oulare and Hondermarck were reportedly ‘frees’). I have no idea but I’d like to think the reported level of the receipts was substantially more than the outflows, otherwise it supports the poor management theory again anyway. So it would appear to me (with no factual basis either way) that there have been unquantified Covid costs met in whole, part or more, by unquantified payroll reductions. Having reluctantly engaged in that speculation I still think the main point still remains that the mismanagement of the current ownership means we are getting nowhere near from our existing resources what could be obtained!
I think I stopped trusting them when it emerged they'd paid less than the original offer by renegotiating the getting to the Championship clause, and the way they took credit for things like the training ground at Nice that they hadn't paid for. Added to since, particularly with the stuff about the ground. What's your take on them? What do you think then?
It was a bit of both by the looks of it. https://www.barnsleychronicle.com/article/21416/what-paul-conway-said-on-a-variety-of-oakwell-issues
What a pathetic post, accusing someone of that. People dislike the owners because of their constant lies. In times when the team is winning, this is often overlooked and Conway is treated like your hero Boris Johnson - 'isn't he a little tinker with his fibs' etc. Last season we were brilliant, and it masked the shortcomings of The Board. But when the poo hits the fan on the field, all the little white lies are scrutinised even more. That's just the way the world works.
What about Cole? Plus fringe players that have joined to replace some of those that left. I think, but don’t know, that we’ve got a couple of new contracts in there as well with weekly wage rises. Oulare is a huge drain on the budget and likely up there as a top earner. Also, and I might be wrong, but normally the budget takes in to account wages and transfer fees. Because we didn’t sell anyone then those coming in would take from both pots - if that makes sense? Also not convinced we’ll have come anywhere near offsetting Covid losses if you take a 12 -18 month view. It was only 18 months ago we lost all our match day revenue for a full season and season tickets were half of what they would be normally. It will take more than just one year to recover from that unless you sell a player - hence the market still being pretty slow.
I suppose with Covid we're all in the same boat as clubs? And those with a bigger staff would have been got hit hardest?
So probably that the loss of income from playing the restricted two games couldn’t offset the player bonuses given for their achievements. More than enough sticks to beat the club with at the minute. This isn’t one of them.
Its not so much spending more money but spending it wisely!! We could see it coming when they tried to change tactics to supposedly make money ( tbf any fool could)! They should have abandoned that experiment there and then when we started getting cut adrift from the others ( even if it was only for this season) Instead they have shut their eyes and covered their ears and ploughed on to oblivion! In the process they are losing our Championship status , isolating and losing a large part of a once incredibly loyal fan base, all of which is losing them money hand over fist. Clueless just doesn't cover it!!
Yes, I missed Cole who was on a free and is not one of the bigger earners. The rest of what you've written is just speculative and without source eg you have no idea and no more than me what Oulare costs - the internet sources which will be wrong but are probably better informed than both you and I say he is on roughly the same as Frieser was btw. Even if he is on much more and the big drain you suggest that simply supports my original theory about inept management and signings. At least he won't be getting any appearance, win or goal bonuses! Your point about transfer fees is just wrong, we sold both Val and Chaplin for substantial fees.
They’ve made a ****** of this season with recruitment of players and managers and there cloak and dagger approach is certainly off putting but other than that they’ve operated same as PC, we’ve sold a few players we’ve night a few players and we’re flirted with promotion last season, to which no one battered an eye lid last year about the £750k...........the problem is everyone has hung drawn and quartered them before listening to hard facts from all parties concerned, if I’m wrong I’ll hold my hands up but until we know all the facts and not speculation I’ll continue to argue me case against the speculation brigade
I'd drop that thought if I were you.. That's never ever going to happen. You are going against the reality of the present. In other words your living in a dream world.
You seem to have missed the part where I put ‘my humble opinion’ What do you mean by ‘your hero Boris’ too?
Didnt we get collins on a free transfer after his contract at chelsea ended? So it would suggest 6 million spread out over the rest wouldnt be suprised if the figure quoted for schmidt was true wilkes was allegedly 1.2 million but we got that back after selling to hull.
What would it take to question them? You weren't at all bothered about looking into ground sharing for eg.?
I agree with what you say on these owners but does every post have to turn into politics on this board.
I was just using Mads as an example, it could have been any player. Helik did do alright but he had the benefit of Sol etc alongside him, which was my point. Would Helik have shone as bright if he’d came when we lost Pinnock etc, probably not. That’s not to say he wouldn’t have made it cos he would.
