It is if you work for the government (even after office hours). But surprisingly, the actual government (MPs and the HoL) have different rules. Where it’s ok to drink subsidised alcohol on the job.
I was in the DWP, no way could alcohol be brought into the work premises for consumption on them. Whether that be an after work office party or not Edit: we were also warned about going for a lunchtime drink in the pub, if management suspected you were under the influence of drink then you could be sent home, suspended awaiting further disciplinary action, which meant the sack. People who swallow this for an excuse from Boris are either as thick as fek or just happy for him to continue coz he’s a Tory
In my company its a sackable offence to take alcohol into the office - that said my client in Austria / Germany has beer in the canteens - never seen it in a meeting though even there and most people dont drink at lunchtime. Its this stuff about hard working thats really annoying me though there are loads of hard working people who were working extra hard during the start of the pandemic and they weren't exempt from the rules - the selfish odious <insert expletive> makes me sick
Even putting everything else to one side, standard tactic to announce an enquiry then deflect awkward questions as they should wait until the enquiry. My point is this: if the prime minister has to wait for an enquiry to tell him if he broke his own rules, is his judgement so feeble that he is fit to hold high office?
I've just finished watching it. A man who has lied so much, the possible avenues for deflection, misdirection, evasion and denial have run out. So he's had to admit he was actually there. Despite denying it, including in the house of commons. That means he's lied in the commons.... again. And the ministerial code explicitly states anyone found to be lying to the house means they should resign. He's admitted he lied to the house, in his roundabout way. But the most disgusting thing, was how the tory backbenchers stayed mute. And that allowed the liar in chief to twist it as if people critical of his mendacity were playing politics. And that is the fundamental issue. You have a conservative party who will do anything to cling to power. And they will do anything to further their personal causes for more power and more wealth. And where was Sunak? Also somewhat sickening to see Truss give DePfeffel a very over familiar thigh pat/squeeze as he sat back down.
Dead man walking/wobbling after that - "didn't realise it was a party" but we'd told the attendees to bring their booze, wtf. He apologised but what for? And then said (ad infinitum) "wait for the inquiry" so basically un-apologised for the insincere, unspecific 'apology' he'd earlier given. Sadly, I wouldn't put it past the Tories having done a deal to keep him on until after all the muck has hit the fan with energy increases and tax rises in April so whoever comes in next doesn't get tarred with them.
Aye, whilst in our office alone we lost half the staff due to Shielding at home rules. We got nothing extra for this not even a thank you from Johnson. wWhen he addressed the Nation in the Summer of 2020 and rightly praised and mentioned all the occupations of the key workers except his own Civil Service who were busy keeping the benefits payments going along with Furlow.
I find it amusing that to allegedly thank the 40ish staff (that turned up) for all their hard work.... that he didn't provide the booze, they had to bring their own... yet just 5 days earlier, in what was also alleged to be a work event in the Downing Street garden, that wine and cheese was put on.
Should the 40 odd staff and others who were in the Garden not be answering questions on why they were at an illegal gathering? There are more than the lump lard in the wrong here
