The Enigma. Does so much right but there is literally zero end product. Wouldn't be too upset if we got a good fee.
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...ree-way-tussle-Barnsleys-Callum-Brittain.html With a year in our favour he's still got two and a half years left so we are in no rush to sell if someone tries to get him cheaply. He's part of a defence that struggles for clean sheets and he hasn't chipped in with one goal his whole time with us.
Doesn't surprise me that there's interest in him. I'd be sorry to lose him. I know he's been a shadow of last season's player this year (but, Collins apart, who hasn't?) and his inability to score has become a running joke, but he was a big part of our success last season. He was also something of a rarity in being an incoming transfer who had an immediate impact on the first team. If he goes, I hope we get the appropriate value for him, as he's not someone I'd be looking to offload on the cheap. He'd definitely be worthy of "UNDISCLOSED" being in capital letters when announced, alongside the obligatory retaining an interest in his future.
If we get the sort of fee that means there's no immediate pressure to sell Helik this month, then it would make sense to sell. Bit mixed on the idea still, Brittain is one of only a few players that isn't easily bullied off the ball as soon as he gets it. He'd probably do a better job in midfield than Palmer and Benson.
He started off great on Saturday I fully expected him to break his scoring duck. No doubt he'll do that on his debut at a new club.
Feel like Helik has to be the most likely to leave. Potential fee in January vs. when he has 12 months left on his contract in the Summer, and a relegation on his CV, doesn’t make sense with our strategy. Argument that staying up is worth more but getting anything like £2.5m now would be sound business overall.
Can I just say that even with a first 11 firing on all cylinders it's unlikely we'll stop up now. I'd sell anything that wasn't nailed down in preparation for financing the club in League 1. Beggars can't be choosers.
Suspect that you're right. But I also thought that he and Styles were the most likely to leave in the summer just gone as well. If he is sold we may as well make bringing in as much cash as possible, ahead of relegation, the main aim of the window. Because the centre back options that will be left would make for pretty grim reading.
Madds is the better performer/defender in my opinion but Helik being classed as an International means they’ll be worldwide interest and the fee automatically goes up a little regardless of how he’s played this season. I’m not sure we’d get £2.5m but that should be the aim, and if anyone offered it I’d be inclined to say yes all things considered.
Anybody wanting to sell Brittain is clearly mental. He’s not hit the heights of last year but is by far, one of only a handful, who are championship quality.
I'd be massively confident of finding a suitable replacement. Like most of our players this season, he's been largely $hite. No loss. I'd hazard a guess this would be as much about trimming Championship wages, as anything else. Our owners have allowed us to sink like a stone, and not done fk all about it
One of the few "first names on the teamsheet" along with Collins, Helik and Morris, so probably a very salable asset, which is the whole point of Barnsley PLC. I'd be amazed if any of those 4 start our first game in League one.
exactly this. I can’t wait for the press release to see they’ve been sold for an undisclosed fee, retaining an interest in their future. To me, these days, this is exactly what supporting a football club is about and justifies me spending my Saturday at oakwell rather than something else with my family.
