Looking back at the team who played the infamous one of the worst performances ever witnessed to leeds. Back then relegation looked very bleak with the ageing players we had on our books with no resale value and many players contracts ending. But back then we had a life long supporter as owner who cared and a manager in wilson who fans had a connection with after relegation that time we had optimism with well over 10k home fans turning up for the opening day game with crawley town (optimism was quickly ended after that game)

This time round we have a younger squad who quite a few we could sell for a decent profit. We have new owners who have alienated the fans. A foreign head coach with no connection to the fans. Opening game of next season be lucky to attract 8k with the way many fans feel.

Add to that the Lebanese Flat Bread and warm non alcoholic lager and you're onto a real winner.

8k is wildly optimistic. Be nearer 5k I fear. As for the team, we don’t know yet what it will look like but I think we have a good idea.
L1 could also be a struggle.

Probabley true, as i was saying on paper we look to be in a better position than the team that went down in 2014 should be able to genarate 6-8 million from player sales from the next 2 windows but the question is how much money will be reinvested and what sort of players will we be able to get. The other problem is many fans feel alienated and no connection to owners or manager.
I think a big overall of players will come same as 2014 collins, styles, anderson and helik i imagine will all go for fees possibly morris. And will players like iseka want to play in the 3rd tier against accrington and fleetwood? Doubt it then theres oulare who needs to go asap.

Good thread & interesting comparison. Player for player I'd say we have a better squad, but are devoid of leadership & confidence.

In terms of the crowd next season it will really depend on what kind of a fist we make of the second half of the season. A decent fight & we could be looking at 8/9k, if we start well in the first 6 games in L1 & keep some of our better players. Obviously there would need to be sales to cover the £6k lost on relegation & possibly more in terms of reduced support through season passes, as I think most will wait to be convinced.

If we go down with a whimper I fear the first few games may see as few as 5/6k through the turnstiles & the atmosphere in the ground for those that stick with the team could be quite toxic.

In 2014 we finished with 39 points, 6 off safety, given our goal difference. We would need 25 points in the second half of the season to match that from 22 games. We thus far have 14 from 24, so that is some ask & it certainly won't be enough to keep us up. It may be enough for some fans though to renew & make us think we have made some sort of progress. That sort of form over the whole season would have given us 52 points, probably enough to keep us up this season I suggest, given Derby's points deduction.

I really can't see us doing better than 25 points from 22, so I'm resigned to us going down, but the manner of the relegation IMO will have a bearing on support next season.

Leeds we’re absolutely **** that day and still won .
That was one of the worst can’t be bothered and don’t give a fek performances I’ve ever seen from a reds team .
We were so half hearted and yet still Leeds we’re struggling to threaten us .
It was like playing with your young kid in the garden and pretending you’d fallen or summat to let him go on and score against you .
Absolutely pathetic and even though we are where we are I haven’t seen that level of don’t give a **** .

Huddersfield away getting hammered was a simiar time. Club looked in a real mess back then ageing squad, no resale value, no player seemed to give a toss i think people only got hyped for the next season as we had the experienced manager in wilson who had a great connection with the fans.
Cryne brought in the signing under 25 policy brought in luke berry, conor, sam winnall etc cryne loaned the club money to sign winnall, conor, scowen etc that season. Next season we may genarate money from player sales but how much will be used to invest in new players? Will this lot put anything in? No doubt it.

I feel alienated by the bosses at Asda the prices have gone up, the shelved are not full, no new products coming in, wheel was buckled on the trolley, happy to help man didn't look very jolly, so I tried tesco and morrisons they were much the same. Chuffing supermarket bosses taking me and my custom for granted, I want full disclosure frim them of how they are going to make it better. The store manager is just not up to the job con men. American Walmart franchise that's why.

I'm starting 2022 in full nobhead mode.

Supporting a football club is abit diffrent to supporting a supermarket. Poor comparison.

Nor really if i think my local asda is going to **** been run into the ground i just move to the next supermarket doesnt bother me one bit. If i think the same is happening at the football club ive supported all my life i dont just go to rotherham or Hillsborough on Saturday at 3pm instead.

Like I said I tried morrisons and tesco and they were just as bad unfortunately I can't afford to shop at waitrose
The point isn't really changing teams but most clubs have these ups and downs and issues with the owners, it generally comes in cycles man utd we're good under fergie not under ole it's football but we don't always protest or abandon the club.
Our owners have said from day one that the club will be self sufficient not plunged into debt or bankrolled and that's how its is.

There’s happy clappers and there’s you.

Seriously, take how bad the recent performances have been out of it - do you really not see a huge issue at the club?

    This isn’t self-sufficiency, it’s wilful, negligent self-harm.

There is an illness through the club, killing it from the inside out.

The problem is that people have stopped being so strongly against them - the fan base is becoming ever more apathetic. People are losing interest. It isn’t just a poor season that does that. We’ve had plenty of them. But I’ve never felt like I do now - I feel like my support and love for the club has been drained.

I'd rather have my view point than yours, what you have wrote is incredibly sad things are not as bad as you say even if we get relegated there will be a route back. Mistakes have been made, things not gone to plan lots of change but an illness running through the club killing it from the inside is a bit extreme.

What's your view on the current situation? Are you happy? Why do you think that we gave regressed so much in 6 months? Are you happy about the 750k? Do you think the Reds Reserved Voucher Scam is excusable? What's your view on the Herbie Kane situation? Do you think Vita and Oulare were good signings? Did you enjoy Freiser announcing his departure on ebay rather than The Club leading the way? We're you satisfied that closing the West Stand was the correct decision? Do you think that fans were adequately supported regarding their seats? Did you think it was good that the stand was continually in use throughout this period whilst fans were not allowed in it?

I think the size of the crowds at the start of next season has more to do with what happens off the pitch rather than on it. If these owners left, it would be such a boost - give everyone a huge lift. Simply knowing the Club has a chance of moving forward, making progress would be absolutely wonderful. The days of regression, mistrust and bad feeling coming to an end. Of course anyone who still has any faith in these charlatans is welcome to follow them out.
