Helen i think the problem is Benson Gomes havent worked plus the early injuries , i totally agree an experienced CM will make a massive difference but hiring Poya isnt the problem and longer term will be a better fit for us if he stays than appointing Warnock. I by the way wanted Warnock or big Mick but i still think we would have struggled and the development of our players is not a quick fix solution after VI and MS.
I don't see any long term success as yet, he still hasn't won a game, he's still playing the same failed system with questionable selection of personnel. Its like saying Schopp would have been a better fit long term.
He isnt playing the same failed system, he has changed the formation over the last 6 games from a 343 Val and Schopp to a 4231. Its the 2 part thats failing - Benson Palmer like others have said if we can get an experienced CM in try Hondermark and I certainly would have brought back Kane then we can start improving. Its going to take time to recover from the previous coaches lack of developing our players unfortunately it will cost us our place in the championship this season.
@Jay maybe that is their policy, get relegated, lose £6m of guaranteed income and seek to cut the wage bill to compensate. They can then develop young talent, sell it on and hope to hit the jackpot with another John Stones. if that is their strategy the last six months have been phenomenally successful.
Give over we have won 2 games all season and were lucky to beat coventry. Marcus schopp was appointed to do a job and win football games. The recruitment in the summer was diabolical benson isnt fit to lace mowatts boots. Iseka poor mans thiam and oulare enough said the better. I couldnt tell you what schopps style of play was the performances were terrible he was taken from a team which is the equivalent to the english national league and they play infront of about 500 fans the bloke was a loser totally out of his depth. Then we finally get shut in the **** so do we go and appoint a manager to save our season? Experienced championship man to guide a young squad? No we appoint a 36 year old sweede who have never been to england let alone know anything about the league he currently has a win ratio worse than schopps 6% add to the fact we have only scored 3 goals in his 6 games 16 goals all season and the bloke likes to play a formation of 10 0 0 without the ball. You want someone to blame? Open your eyes the owners and ceo who go missing when things are ***** are to blame for this season.
Benson and Gomez will be decent players but not yet good enough to replace Mowatt. Mistake by our recruitment team. Oulare fitness, poor decision from our recruitment team. Iseka Cole could be ok given better support from midfield, cant write these off yet. Anderson, Morris injuries were a big problem on top of all the other injuries, no ones fault. Appointing Schopp owners fault. Val, Dane, Murray, Mowatt leaving, their own decision not the owners or recruitment team to blame.
As I said from the start, I don't believe it to be engineered. But neither do I believe it to be a huge concern for them either.
@Jay I do hope you are right. We will only know the sustainability of the model in league one in 18 months time.
I don't believe it's the right way to go. I believe we should attempt to be the best football team we can be within budget. Do you think that's what we're trying to do? Because I see no evidence of that at all.
Sadly, I think they're trying, but doing a terrible job of it, particularly when Conway is acting CEO. We seemed to flex from the general age criteria of players when we signed Oulare (25) and Cole (26). Then went and bought two midfielders in with barely any first team appearances between them, to replace our captain. They desparately need a Director of football, with some football knowledge that can advise on how best to use the budget that they have. Suspect we won't have the lowest playing budget but we have by far the worst team in the league.
Gomes will never be our player we needed a loan who could make a diffrence now. Benson still young but not ready far from it. Oulare rejected us in january and has a history of poor fitness and hardly great stats apparently him and iseka werent spreadsheet signings put forward by agents to conway (But not getting into that again) Morris was a big miss but we signed 3 strikers in the summer cole, oulare and iseka kitching we paid alot for so should be able to fill in for anderson. It was obvious val was going to leave after his interview at the swansea 2md leg game. Cant blame him for going we had a release clause we failed to replace him or the backroom staff.
First aim keep us in the division, then look to the summer to bring a better coach in. I think hiring Poya is a problem personally but really want to be proved wrong when he takes us on a 15 game winning streak!
I'm reckoning we'll struggle to get £5 million for Helik & Woodrow combined, but due to our league position & the length of their contracts. Not a bonanza.
Not many people are agreeing with me to start rebuilding with Poya but lets hope im right because the alternative i dont know really what it is and I would be worried about our future if we dont.
I agree with every word you have said, however obvious though it was that Val was going to leave doesnt get away from the fact that we were never going to replace him with a like for like coach and be successful again. Schopp was the wrong appointment with hindsight and failed. Poya needs time but this season its now too late so rebuild and comeback again.
As I said right at the start, I agree with a lot of what you post. If this is how they want to run the club then I really do worry about the future of the club we all love. Barnsley Football Club has been a massive part of my life and it is absolutely criminal to watch what is happening both on and off the field. I don’t buy the conspiracy theory, I really believe they are simply inept.
