ignoring the on pitch stuff (bang average last night at best) its just so so depressing off the pitch last night. Got caught up near the bottle throwing in the second half with my teenagers. My 14yo daughter (who is absolutely no shrinking violet and is used to "industrial language" occasionally at home) really shaken up by it and suddenly burst into tears in the car on the way back over the M62. Luckily we managed to move fairly quickly but it was ridiculous - must have been 50-60 on each side, hammered and paying no attention whatsoever to the match. All game - concourse at half time beer getting chucked everywhere and getting jostled going to the loo. Complete numpties. I know people will defend them - "supporting tarn aren't they, need the atmosphere, better than sitting in a library etc" but I'm done with it. Grow up ffs. Special mention apart from those numpties to the fat couple sat next to us with their 7/8 year old who was constantly swearing. Particular highlight when he started chanting "your dad's a scab, and so are you" only to be corrected by his dad - "no you silly tw*t, its **** not scab". Much hilarity followed. No hope for some is there?
Gave up on it altogether after the Bolton match at start of the season. Unwilling to share space with the morons.
Hope your daughter is ok. Wouldn’t take my kids too away games for the same reasons. It can be dicey at home games too, but at least usually you know how to avoid trouble at home. football exists in two parallel tracks. There’s taking the knee, rainbow laces, mental health focus, all of which suggest a very enlightened experience. And then there’s thugs, quite a lot of thugs.
No excuse for throwing bottles and beer. You'd think with all the cctv and surveillance that those who do would get football banning orders. Think they should have a steel creche for those that want to maim each other and let the rest of us get on with watching the game
Unfortunately when the team are 5hite the hooligan element isn't drowned out by the better supporters as much.
Haven't been to an away game for about 3 years. Too many racist, violent thugs. Its like a BNP rally at times.
Agreed. The further away the match the better the experience generally (Fulham a prime example) but last night was a nonsense. Not sure if it was supposed to be a police free game but they rocked up late after stewards trying manfully to sort it out for 20 mins or so. Having said that if it is a regular occurrence then, given the masses of empty seats, they shouldn't sell that block really to home fans. Seemed to be where their "crew" congregate. Nowhere near an excuse though.
I enjoy our atmosphere at times but we make it toxic when things don't go our way. It's embarrassing. We seem to think we are marseille ultras or something. It use to be now and again idiots come out but now it's more or less every away game.
Wait untill league one it was even worse last time when we were ***** in league one. We seemed to have a larger following of people intent on causing bother back then.
It's the C bombs our fans sing that puts me off, especially with young uns around. The Blackburn fan in the red shirt enjoyed the attention too much and a steward even had to go have a word with him. Much of it was light hearted with our fans singing how **** must you be it's only 0-0 and Blackburn fans singing sit down behave. It was when Blackburn fans started chucking bottles at our fans that it kicked off in the corner. Outside by the coaches our fans were goading the home fans with stuff like Wankyshire and in the first few minutes of the journey home I saw around double figures worth of cop cars including a riot van going in the direction of the ground. Fair to say at least some of them were dealing with bother between the two sets of fans?
That's the real shame of it. There are some away days in L1 that would potentially be good days out, but for far too long now, they are all spoiled by our moronic element. It's just one of the things that's turning me away from football. Home games are depressing, sat watching ***** football in a tired stadium with no atmosphere or fan experience. And away games have become no go zones because of the morons. I would cross the street to avoid these people every other day of the week. I don't want to spend time in their vicinity on a matchday just because we support the same club. I wish there was something that could be done to flush them out because they are ruining the club for me, just as much as the board are.
To be fair league one away days were enjoyable when we were good under hecky and stendel. It was more when we were crap under wilson and johnson that i saw a increase in trouble causers.
home games can be ruined too, depending on how unlucky your seat position is, swearing , moaning ,abusing our players, abusing opposition players, some of the joys ,add to **** food ,nightmare journey into ground, terrible football, its a wonder we get a thousand in there
we must have a different definition of light hearted. Oh and while we are at it, how are chants about how crap we are going to help the team? especially towards the start of the game. Its just embarrassing.
Not saying its tit for tat or out but blackburn at home they brought some right bell ends singing anti Yorkshire songs goading home fans outside the west stand and on the trains.
That's apathy. To be honest once that level of apathy has set in i tend to agree with you because there's other things you should be doing instead.
