Would genuinely like to know if Poya will be consulted about any new signings in January or will we be leaving it to super recruiter Conway.
Conway has no input in who the club sign.Recruitment staff, coach and CEO who gets the deals over the line.
Dane did a great job last January. Whoever was responsible for the summer signings should have been sacked long before Schopp was. In reality we know Conway was overseeing this & ballsed up big time. New CEO was not in place at the time. We need to make sure we do the right thing. We only kept our Championship status the season before last by adding Solbauer & having a bit of luck playing behind closed doors with untried kids. If we don't bring in an experienced midfielder we are down. We may be down even if we do, but I think that unless there is a massive fire sale there is enough talent to give us a fighting chance.

I know Conway was CEO in the summer but how can he balls up deals that have been identified by other departments? Can you imagine the uproar if Conway had have said "don't sign him I don't rate him". The board have got some things wrong and somethings right but for people to attack one man who has no input in signings is in my view just plain wrong. Maybe its time to have a complete overall of the recruitment process and see where that takes us.
I mean, that doesn't say anything about them unjustly taking money out of the club. They use our loyalty to the club to generate income for the club which they own - e.g. when they asked us us to "dig deep" and buy season tickets anyway during the pandemic year. Ultimately our investment will benefit them financially, as they want to make money from the club (I would imagine by growing our value as best they can and then selling us for a profit). They aren't football fans. They are certainly not Barnsley FC fans. The exact same applies to the currency point: our loyalty is the means by which they hope to generate income for the club, and this is the means by which they aim eventually to make a profit. Which bit isn't true?
Your defence of Conway is commendable, and you're consistent I'll give you that. Who do you blame for the summer recruitment then? It's been well established that the Coach did not sign these players - and we did not have a CEO at the time as Dane was on gardening leave. Our incomings this summer were as follows: Vita Oulare Iseka Gomes Kitching Benson Cole So with no Murphy or Schopp involvement, what's the crack?
Oulare? Vita? Really? Due diligence was great there. Then we have Benson, Cole & Iseka. Hardly tearing up the division, or even playing that much. Add Gomes as a light marinade on all that. The only one that looks like he could be a player, but is so out of his depth without a more experienced partner he should be going on the field with a snorkel. He was in charge. Where the **** does the buck stop?
Fonzie come on you know better. Its been mentioned on the BBS this morning. The CEO's involvement is getting the deals over the line. The signings are identified by the coach and recruitment team.In the summer we signed Cole before Val left. After that the signings signed would have been already identified. I've no agenda in defending Mr Conway but the folks who have an agenda against him blame him for every single thing that goes off at Oakwell and I don't find that fair. You never see or hear the people who berate Conway have a go at Chien Lee or Nareev and they're part of the same board.
No one else has had an executive position at the club. i.e. They are investors. Not saying they are without blame as to how the club is going, but they have no day to day role.
Kitching signed in January but was injured until May. I think he had a sub appearance against Norwich
Oh I have as much contempt for Nareev and Chien - but neither are the rentagob that Conway is. And this Recruitment Team and Coach you speak of - well in the summer it basically did not exist. So whoever signed these failures (so far) deserves a kicking. Are you happy with the summer recruitment?
I appreciate you sharing that. He has a lot on his plate at the moment and I hope for our sakes, and his, he can deliver.
Some yes some no.We all know throughout football not every signing pays off.We also know that you don't sign a player overnight it can take months of negotiation. Like I said in another post maybe its time to overall the recruitment procedure.
