Of course deaths at home increased when people weren’t allowed to leave their home. That’s like when Patel said shoplifting decreased whilst the shops were shut. What caused those deaths? Was it domestic violence or diy accidents or heart attacks or Covid or old age? How did number of deaths outside the home change? Did car accidents, gang stabbings, falling off a cliff etc. reduce?
I thought that deaths in the home continue to be at a higher rate than is usual, not just during lockdown
Fanaticism is a strong word and one I’ve answered numerous times before. Nothing about self-interest and only about more than just health - which feels like a taboo to discuss sometimes.
I posted official bed occupancy numbers yesterday. 2018 vs. 2021. Didn’t get one reply. Nobody doesn’t want to protect the NHS, or ensure as many lives as possible are saved, despite what insults and accusations are thrown in that direction. But there is a bigger picture that can be considered and discussed amicably.
I'm not so sure anyone is only thinking economically, I'm certainly not. Educationally kids needed to be school for the most part, lockdown certainly was detrimental to my son in this regard.
A lot of them are trying to save their businesses in hospitality or trying to protect their mental health. Some things matter more than living under ridiculous restrictions for a variant that's got less than 100 people in our hospitals out of over 1,200 hospitals in the whole of the UK.
It's not a legal requirement to wear a mask outside. Look at football stadiums, why do you not ask why can't all the fans wear a mask in their seat? Why not ask why did the BLM protest take place when it was illegal to do so. May I suggest it's bias because you don't agree with what they a protesting about? People contiung to blame other people for the spread of a respiratory virus between Humans is the one thing that has irked me more than anything this last couple of years.
They could but the law didn't require them to. At least this protest was completely legal. Last year people knowingly broke covid restrictions in order to attend protests didn't they. Yet they were praised for having morals to stand up to the big man All the red dots (minis the line at the bottom) is someone without a mask at least years illegal BLM protest in London. This was simply the first picture I found
I suppose even more worrying is the fact we had a major protest in the Capital and it had next to zero media coverage. Agree or disagree with the protests message or if it should even have been allowed, the media blackout on it is very troubling indeed.
No need to it wasn't a law. We need to learn to live with the virus like Whitty said in April. Boris will be gone next year because too many of his own MPs don't like him having no plan to live life how we were born to live it. It's incredibly sad how dead pubs and restaurants have been lately. It's the lead up to Christmas. They should be absolutely rammed and making back some of the loses they have made over the past two years. But instead of people taking personal responsibility they listen to Boris with all his negativity and avoid these places. If people don't pop for a meal and drink in places then don't complain when they close for good.

But before you post stuff like that, think of the people ( some on here ) who have lost loved ones and have been or are very ill from that or related illness. and think how opinions like that sit with them. Its easy to go on with opinions like that when you haven't been touched by it but otherwise................
Pot. Kettle. Black springs to mind when you read through all the discourse though. Excuse me for a second as I go sit outside in my camper van, enjoy a coffee, and play with my aerial to see what conspiracy theorists or aliens I can pick up. Tin foil hat at the ready.
Par for the course. We’ve not covered similar protests in other countries that have been plunged in to lockdown or segregated based on medical status.
tbh Loko that in itself should come with an irony alert! ( also see my reply to Dreamboy's similar views)

Every day we lose around 500 people to cancer, which is around three times more than we lose to covid and a number that's only going to rise because of appointments and surgeries being cancelled. Since the pandemic started I know a handful of people who have passed away, just none of them were to covid which is the only thing that's important to the government. The problems that could spring up in life before the pandemic didn't stop because the pandemic came along.
Complicated answer. We have seen exponential growth but it's difficult to see. For a couple of reasons 1. Small numbers can grow exponentially without looking obvious 2.omicron is hiding behind a high level of delta. Overall rates may be stable in places but Omicron is growing and at some point will take off and become obvious. 3. Confirmed numbers of Omicron are small because it's only confirmed by genetic sequencing. Possible numbers are measured by SGTF but not every PCR test reports on SGTF. 4. Testing and testing behaviour has to stay the same to see how rates change. Once we top out the testing capacity, possibly soon and / or people stop testing then rates will look like they aren't increasing when the actual level of infection is increasing. We will only know how high they got when we start to see admissions rising. 5. Some of this may be mediated by people changing their behaviour and getting boosters.
