The union being a bit greedy they,ve been offered 9% and it’s not good enough for their members

I wouldn't read too much into a headline figure without knowing the more spefic details of how theyvare paid, shift premiums overtime hours of work, working conditions ect.
I would also assume the union leadership has the support of its members or they wouldn't be out on strike at all

That's only one side of the story though. I suspect creative maths has gone on.

    What does 9% equate to?

BTW it's the members who are the Union.

It only really effects the OAPs who have free bus passes.

How much are Hgv drivers getting paid? Dangerous precedent by government demanding bigger wages for them to drive lorries ...

Why don't they just leave their jobs and get a different one that is better paid? Anyone in the construction industry does this as common practice with no hassle attached whatsoever.

The increases are unsustainable, we have lost 10 drivers. 6 of them to a company offering 40k a year and their accounts for the last few years doesn't make for good reading.

Our drivers are getting increases and bonuses but not on the large scale some other companies are getting but it has stopped a lot more from leaving. To the companies offering obscene wages, good luck to them I say as at ain't going to be pretty when it all comes crashing down.

I know a couple of drivers that have had umpteen times to move jobs and earn more money. The problem is they are lazy gets who like their time off, 3 on 4 off shifts or 4 on 3 off

Or just pay them a decent wage ... read that about teaching , nurses etc gonand get a better paid job if you're moaning about money. Question is who fills those vacancies?

Like most work environments though, I personally think a few would leave and get themselves better wages/terms and then the managements arses would fall out and pay them what they're worth. Win-win. Like I say, this happens on sites up and down the country. You don't have to just accept things and hope someone else sorts your pay out.

In case of teaching/nursing it's the government- that isn't going to happen though ...

I agree with you unless you go into private care. A situation I'm aware of with the wife being a practice nurse and my daughter starting her nurse training. Their hands are tied to some extent but they did know the kind of brass they'd be on but the bus drivers we were talking about aren't.

Percentages don't tell the whole picture 9% of peanuts is still peanuts. Whoever said they were lazy needs to give his head a shake. They are paid less than the East Midlands drivers and work just as heard. Working conditions at Stagecoach are abysmal/. When drivers are given 3 day suspensions for refusing to break driving hour directives you know that something stinks with the Management of the company.
