I think the best comparison is 2013/14 season. 20 games in we had 15 points and minus 19 goal difference.

2009 we were positively flying after 20 games with 26 points.

In 2012 we had 17 points and stayed up.

Being at the bottom and a bit rubbish is not new for us..

 

Surely there becomes a time tho when you have to act with your head and not your heart. By continuing to just put up with it we are just enabling them to ruin everything we love about Barnsley FC.

 

That's true but I much prefer being in the Championship.

 

Sure, cos the million they could ‘hope’ to get for a coach will go a long way to replace the 10 million or so relegation will cost.

Im also certain they’re that stupid.

 

We look very likely to go down. Most tes that struggle have poor defensive records but the ones that can score a few goals always have a chance. We need to start and carry some threat going forward.

It was obvious to almost all of us on BBS that Schopp should have been sacked several games earlier than he was. To reach the 50 points marker, which usually, though not quite always, is sufficient to stay up, we need 38 points from 26 games. This equates to 10 wins, 8 draws and 8 defeats. In view of the fact that our last 12 games have produced 1 win, 1 draw and 10 defeats, our reaching the 50 points mark would represent a miracle on a par with the raising of Lazarus.

 

Personally, I'm in this camp, and have already withdrawn any spending that contributes towards the ownership (I would say club, but there's no guarantees on this anymore). I cancelled my Centenary Society membership this week, so all that's left to use up now is the season ticket and prepaid car park pass for the remainder of the season (with a commitment that I'm not buying programmes, merchandise or food from within the ground for any games I attend).

However, I've said previously that it's a personal choice for everyone to make for themselves. There's an inherent urge to support the club through thick and thin, so someone else choosing to keep buying season tickets, etc is a choice for them. I did it through administration, pretty much without a second thought, at a time when I had a 250 mile round trip to get to home games, but this is different. The owners and I no longer share the same ambition, which is for BFC to compete at the highest level it is capable of and, even worse, they've permanently destroyed any trust I had in them by taking funds out the club, that it can ill afford, for their own benefit.

The only circumstances under which I would even consider renewing from here is if the £750k is restored to the club, and that would then be subject to assessing the other actions of the owners between now and the end of the season. However, I know that this is not going to happen, so I'm already resigned to giving up my season ticket after 26 consecutive seasons. My rationale for this is that the long-term future of the club is better served without these owners in place, although I suspect we'll have to go through another administration process to actually achieve the goal of removing them. Ultimately, it is likely that the club would once again survive this, albeit perhaps we might be a League 1 or League 2 club by then. Assuming so, then I'd be happy to resume financial support of it under different owners, on the presumption that they were going to attempt to make us competitive on the field, at whatever level we were playing. PMG have broken that fundamental basic presumption, and if any subsequent owner did the same thing, then I'd adopt the same approach with them.

That's my choice, and it's an entirely personal one based on my own 'red lines' as to what's acceptable or otherwise. Others will have different opinions on how they feel the club can be best supported and, even if I don't agree with them, football club support is a pursuit that quite often defies any sensible rationale or logic, so who am I to say that their choices are any more right or wrong than my own?

Typing this out is actually easier than any part of the 'conscious uncoupling' (thanks for that phrase Chris and Gwyneth!) process that I'm going through. It took me a month longer than I'd planned to cancel the Centenary Society membership, as I had such an attachment to it. The early bird window is going to be a real test, particularly the final 24 hours before the deadline passes, because I'll have to fight all those inherent, basic instincts that have led to me renewing season after season. It will upset me to do it but, for me, it's the most appropriate action I can take to have a chance of ultimately having my club back at some point in the future.

 

This is true. Poya mentioned that out of 4 halves of football we have only conceded in one of those halves. That's not bad. The problem is we haven't scored in any of them.

 

I am truly past caring now, I really am. I can’t honestly see where a win is coming from…. The whole set up top to bottom appears to be a complete and utter shambles. If it takes relegation for the powers that be to realise that, then so be it.

 

I agree but I'm more concerned about the club off the field than on it. Too many players not enough quality weakest midfield I can ever remember seeing. Even in our last relegation we had barnes,potts,Gardner and Williams this time we have gomes, honnermark, Palmer and Benson.

 

Poya has inherited a squad with these midfield options, all confidence shot and any sort of fitness and organisation being alien to them. I can see why he’s gone ultra cautious while he tries to build the team back up again. It may be too late, but that’s not his fault.

With the midfield, I think he’s still trying to find his least bad option. Things are bad when people are listing Hondermarck as a must start, of the back of one start and some sub appearances. I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back into the team soon, but I also won’t be surprised if he picks some players in midfield that will lead to uproar on here i.e. Halme, Moon and maybe even Brittain, as he tries to find a midfield two that isn’t too lightweight.

 

Thats the problem for me its far too lightweight Benson doesn't look like he has a tackle in him and palmer and gomes aren't exacly commanding. We loose the midfield battle every game and create little from it. Its the weakest part of the squad I think he should try dropping a striker playing 2 upfront and an extra man in midfield no harm in giving it a go.

Sad to say I agree. This season has been a nightmare on and off the pitch. Without nothing short or a miracle it's League 1.

 

Not sure how anyone can still try & make out Schopp was the problem. We’ve got worse without him despite getting better players back & more games under the belt for new players. We should be improving.

 

Tbf with Mads and Morris back we should be.

 

Schopp wasn’t ‘the’ problem but he was a problem. We got progressively worse under him. I don’t think we’ve got worse since he left, we’d have lost to Derby and Peterborough if he was still here.
