I used to dislike Beatles music.

When I was a nip I thought their singles were even more juvenile than me.

There's a new documentary putting them back in the news. It took ages but I'm now half way towards understanding the Beatles produced musical genius, at least some of the time.

Pick your favourite track.. Just one. Mine is

Eleanor Rigby - 2 minutes of perfectly troubling genius.

So, when I was a kid my Dad bought one of those 8 track music systems. The "tapes" were the size of a small house in Great Houghton and roughly the same price. He had four tapes, Sgt peppers, Neil Sedaka's Greatest hits, Neil Diamond's greatest hits and Johnny Cash Live at St Quentin. Everywhere we went he played them over and over. The eponymous (thank fark for Grammarly) Sgt Pepper was brilliant but for me, Strawberry Fields Forever

A Day In The Life. Predictable, but for me probably the most perfect song ever written.

Took me ages to get anywhere close to being into The Beatles, but this is definitely my favourite - probably the precursor to 70's rock and metal.

Also brilliantly covered by U2 on Rattle &Hum.
Paul McCartney wrote it as a response to Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere by The Who.

more trivia than I have re any other Beatles song.

I once had the pleasure of sitting in the same room as George Martin listening to him speak about the band for 3 or 4 hours. Magical.

Yep, many happy memories singing along to A Boy called Sue.
Yeah, stick that in your pipe grammarley. No quotation marks and no capital letter for your name. I'm feeling seriously rebellious tonight.

I've got to add something to this. I've already voted but a special place for back in the ussr. Watch the BBC historian (forget his name, maybe Dominic Lewis) about soft power. The Russians didn't get it as they took it literally and finally let their children listen to it. From that moment on they (the restrictive Soviet Government) were doomed. Their young had got a taste of the West
