The first press conference and follow up media calls can be summarised as... [Conway] We aren't going to do anything crazy. [Lee] Long time, long time. [Conway] Too good to be true. [Lee] Long time, long time. [Conway] Balanced budgets, Champions League Nice, records, records, records. [Lee] Long time, long time.
Me neither. I think the end game was always, add value to the club and then sell on. They talked about improving the commercial footprint of the club. Which is why I don't subscribe to the belief that they're happy with the state that the club has fallen in to. Its not making them money at the moment. Not owning the ground, if anything, is killing them.
Could James and the council tell Barnsley fc to go and do one and then set up a brand new team, bsay Barnsley Miners, to work their way up through the leagues?
That's perhaps the most encouraging view. If they are hoping to sell the club at a profit then not being able to secure the ground is a major problem for them. I've no problem with them hoping to sell at a profit as, in theory, we should be healthier as a club than when they bought us. Maybe they'll cut their losses (which can't have been much as they've barely paid for owt) and sell us on. Again the worry is they may not be too squeamish about who they offload us to. If only we had a governing authority who enforced some sort of fit and proper persons test to any rigorous degree.
I don't know which camp I'm in Archey to be honest. In sixty odd years I've never yet seen a knight in shining armour and certainly not in Barnsley.
If you remember AFC Barnsley ,playing in Cudworth at the Dorothy Hyman was set up by Patrick must be 20 years ago.
