I don't really care about laws in other countries, or even laws here to be honest. They're silly things that people write down. I care about what's right and wrong. I know what's right and wrong. Going somewhere, taking a gun, then shooting people is wrong. In every way. There isn't a defence for it, so I'm at a total loss as to why so many people people are bending over backwards to concoct one.
Because you can't lock people up based on what you (or I) believe is morally correct. Only on what is legal or illegal.
It was legal for him to own the gun as it was over 16 inches in length. That's why the charge of illegally possessing the gun was dismissed as soon as the law was read out to the judge. I just wish Americans weren't too pig headed, stubborn and backwards to change their gun laws when these things happen as by refusing to do so they're just ensuring more death and suffering
I understand why his lawyer would put forward a case, he's working within the silly laws I previously spoke about, but I don't understand why a casual observer would.
I think the USA is still a place that is "under construction" as a society, as technologically advanced as they are.
The murderer went 20 miles with a semi-automatic gun just for self-defense WTF. As it now opened the flood gates for people to take guns to any sort of event for self-defense. As the likes of Cruz and Cawthorne 2 Trump-supporting Republicans are advising.
What’s my usual way out of interest? Removal of condescending tone appreciated in advance. Before you reply, can you also acknowledge that I’ve already criticised the gun laws in the US for allowing this to happen? If you don’t think the media were terrible in their reporting of this case then good for you. I just don’t see it like that.
Straight off the bat your opening sentence is wrong . He did nt travel with the gun , the gun was already there but I know your not really interested past your own narrative . For me this all about one thing , trump . Rittenhouse was openly a trump supporter so certain sections of the media have acted accordingly . Ironically this whole situation will be yet another gift to the right in America because when trump mutters " fake news " then it will land with an ever increasing populace . It's like another repeat of 2016 where CNN / msmbc etc focused wholly on trump and disregarded your Bernie Sanders of this world and unwittingly helped to promote his cause and toxic politics .
Because in a discussion about if he should have been found guilty in court the laws of the country/state in question are relevant. If you want to ask a different question then that may bring a different response. The question in the original post was "how on earth has he got away with it?" The rest of the discussion branched out from that starting point.
Extremely well put. ‘How did he get away with it’ and ‘How on earth was he not guilty’ are different to ‘Do you think he should of got away with it’.
I thought I was quoting an exact question posed in this thread. In my defence I’m eight hours behind you lot right now and still in bed! Plus based on some of the things said in this thread we’re beyond caring about accuracies by now surely? Must do better though!
Dunno I was just musing. But then again any country where a member of the public allowed to pick up a loaded assault rifle and take it for a walk in public is pretty much beyond my understanding anyway.
Thought the same myself until pointed in that direction. The more you read about the intricate details of the laws on guns the more it just blows your mind. No pun intended. Will never understand it.
Just seen this, don't know if it been mentioned. Gun Owners of America ‘awarding’ Rittenhouse with AR-15 gun similar to weapon used in fatal shootings (msn.com) Fck me static.
