Sure it wasn’t either the Strafford Arms or Birdwell Club?

Just watching this and it's great to see the quality of football on offer from both sides.

Pass and move, good skill on the ball.

It's not hoof and run, the tackling isn't mad and the tactics are sound.

I think of that game with more fondness than the Man City game.

Few things I noticed. Hardly any free kicks or offsides. No rolling around or arguing with the ref and most of all how quick the kick offs were inbetween goals. Only downside was the Marching on together song! .
One of my favourite games ever, can't believe it was 40 years ago, brilliant days.

Right at the beginning the camera focus on RG as the Ponty sing "One Ronnie Glavin" and he waves at them. That gave me goosebumps a little thing like that

    Emotional.

I had a part time evening job after school. 3 hours, 2 of which were spent supping tea and reading the various red-top newspapers left around. The day after this match, on the back page, one of those papers had a wonderful section added underneath the match report about how special that side was and the general atmosphere of watching at that time when most teams were stuck in a rut. I wish I could stumble across it. It was on a par with Barry Davies wonderful comments at the time (after the following Man City match) which I think someone has as a 'signature' on here.

    Happy, happy days.
If only the ownership today had a grasp on what they are actually sitting on.

It’s hard to get over to those people who didn’t experience watching the Reds at that time just how special an era it was.
From the arrival of Allan Clarke in 78 through to the eventual break up of the side in 83 it was a truly magical time.

I seem to recall Norman Hunter commenting in one programme that a top flight manager boasted to him about his clubs' away following in the 80/81 season. Norman 's reply was along the lines of "that's nothing, my lot have took loads more in the past few weeks away" ..

I was stood at the back with my mate at White Hart Lane when we played Enfield, and a policeman turned to his mate and said "fack me! They've brought more Arsenal"

Same here. I was at the game in West Upper. I had a season ticket there that season. Just watched it now. What struck me was the fast and furious pace, which was relentless throughout the game. The quality of the football was far better than we have seen for a long time at Oakwell. The ball was hardly ever played backwards by either side for the entire match. We weren't satisfied to see out the game at 4-1. I saw no diving and no feigning injury. Just read in my 1981 diary that Brighton had lost only 2 of their previous 13 games in Division One and had won 1-0 at Spurs in their previous game. In those days there was no such thing as squad rotation and playing reserves in. Cup competitions, so I'm sure they would have had a full-strength team out, which shows how impressive our 4-1 win was. According to my diary, by the way, the crowd was 19534. The only thing I didn't like about the video was being reminded of the disgraceful chant of "You're gunna get your fuckin' 'eads kicked in", after Brighton had scored. Notwithstanding that, thanks very much for uploading the video, which brought back many happy memories.

    Outstanding post!
In the grand scheme of things I'm just a collector who uploads the odd video but the main reason I do it is to hear quotes and memories like this.
    Thank you
