Doug o'kane on twitter squad been given most of the week off, is it just me but most of them blowing out of there arses by the 70th min already it defies belief. Nothing to report on coach front hoping to get somebody in this week to give them time before Fulham couldn't make it up.
Booze, takeaways, all-night parties, pies, crisps, chocolate, and generally dossing around. If a weeks worth of that doesn't get them fit, nothing will.
His words not mine in the position we are in I am more than a little surprised there having anytime off.
They should have been straight back into training on Sunday after that performance against Hull. Can't understand the mentality really. I know they'd just played 2 games in 4 days, but for professional athletes it isn't too much to ask to go into training to work on a few things surely
Some of our players need to get a ******* grip. It’s all well and good that they were good before, but **** me sideways they are bad now. Regardless of tactics or coaching, some of the performances have been nothing short of disgusting. Wouldn’t let them have a day off the entire break.
They all should be on double sessions the way they’ve been performing so far this season. Absolute joke if you ask me…..
Many on this forum have commented on the lack of fitness of the squad compared to last season. A week off from training is not what is needed right now I would have thought. I wonder what other championship clubs have done this week.
I think we forget sometimes that these are grown men with time, money, and access to modern sports facilities. They have it within their power to be self-sufficient and own their own fitness and positively affect their mental strength. I remember the break in play during the first lockdown, individual players being interviewed at the time talking about how they were staying on top of their fitness and owning it, ready for when they returned to play competitively with no clue as to when that would be. This, on the back of a very bad run previously and almost-certain relegation. There are also examples now, Mads Anderson has stayed positive, educated himself, worked on his mental wellbeing to positively affect performance on the pitch. Yes, the club is in a state, the summer was a shambles, the backroom staff is very weak. But these players must step up as professional, privileged athletes. This narrative of sending players on to the field like lambs to the slaughter needs to stop - it's a privilege to be selected to play for this club, and being asked to play on the left of a back 3 one week, and on the right the next, isn't so crushing to a players mental wellbeing. It's a bad tactic to have no consistency, obviously, but people are sent to war at a younger age without complaint and for far less money, and with no guarantee that they will return. These (grown men) players that pull on the shirt for Barnsley need to pick themselves up, take a look in the mirror, and stop looking for half-arsed excuses why things aren't working. Basically take some responsibility, stop crying about why things aren't working, and get back in shape, on and off the pitch.
I'm not very fit either. In order to increase my fitness levels I'm going to have a week laid on the couch. I hear it's what all the top athletes do when they aren't fit
Yes the players will have their own equipment at home and can do some fitness work, but when the league restarted after lockdown, the squads needed a two week pre season because there’s only so much you can do at home. While you’d expect the odd day off, it’s surprising they’re not in training at the club to try and use the time, then maybe taking next weekend off before hopefully a new coach comes in. If they are taking most of the week off, it’s a bizarre move given the state we’re in.
Apologies, I think my point came across wrongly. I agree with you, and they should be at the club training. My point was that players could keep fit away from the club (in lockdown), so now they have access to the training facilities and they know the intensity required from the days of Val, the whole 'we didn't have a fitness coach in the summer so that's why they arent fit' narrative doesn't wash with me.
