Unfortunately, and a bottle-necked IKEA at that! Then again, aren't they all?

I thought it seemed a big ground when I was there. However, that could be my memory playing tricks on me, as it was over fifty years ago.

It is indeed. You get a lovely view as you curve round the flyover before you eventually head through the delightful *ahem* St Pauls district and the new Cabot Circus shopping area.

In those days, Rovers played in blue shirts with white sleeves, the same kit as Sheffield Wednesday at the time.

St Werburghs is nice, just next to St Paul's. Great little microbrewery (Fierce & Noble), good friendly old skool boozer (Duke of York), and the city farm. But also an unhealthy amount of hipsters

My first experience of Bristol many years ago was to visit a client who was based in St Pauls. It's a wonder I ever visited again after that!

Yes, been to Fierce and Noble at one of the beer festivals. Some fabulous bars and brewers down there.

Love sitting on the Grain Barge and just watching the paddle boarders venture by. Good Chemistry was good too and obviously the ones that feel like old established staples now like Moor and LHG. So many brewers for one City. And of course Wild Beer.

Some wonderful restaurants as well. And a visit isn't complete without having breakfast at the PigSty.

One day..... one day I'll get to visit safely.

Do they still play in quartered shirts? I do quite like quartered shirt designs, though this season we seem to be seeing some crazy designs, guessing been some innovation that allows multicoloured psychedelia!

I think they do and have always thought it looks quite smart.

One of the first seasons I saw the hamlets, they had pink and blue quarters. Sadly they keep changing the styling season to season.

By the way, they played last night against maidstone and I saw Jordan Green had started for Dulwich. Didn't hear many cheers, though there seemed to be quite a bit of singing, but don;t know how he did or what the score was.

St Paul's is a different beast at night too, but I've never personally experienced any trouble. But I've been on my guard before.

All great places you mention (apart from Pigsty, which I havent been to so can't comment). Also yet to go LHG though I feel like I've been because I've walked past it enough times and the front is open plan so you see inside dont you! Grain Barge great as you say - you should also try The Cottage directly across the river from there, for a pint and great views of paddle boarders/harbour/suspension bridge/hot air balloons (on a sunny day). Spent many an afternoon/evening in Wild Beer too.

I'm very envious. We did look at moving there a few years ago (probably 4 or 5 now) and wandered round quite a few of the areas. We couldn't quite get the right feel for an area, so it sort of fizzled out as an idea.

We've been going multiple times a year for the best part of what, crikey, 18 years now, think our first trip was 2003. The first place we fell in love with was Severn Shed, well before it got bought by Coal. Had a superb menu and the maitre d was fierce, rarely seen that outside London. Fillet beef, duxcelles mushroom and horseradish mash.... i could so eat that right now!

It's certainly evolved quite a lot in that time, and generally for the better and every time we've visited we've found somewhere new and interesting.

Last time we visited Spaghetti Incident and Rassassy out towards Hotwells (i think thats what it was called?) and time before that we had a seriously good meal at an italian... i think it was the sister to pasta loco, can't recall the name though.

Such a fabulous city. Hope it's got through the pandemic unscathed and not too many retail and leisure casualties.

It is a great city. Been here 5 years now. Lived mainly in BS3, Bedminster and Southville, and then moved to Totterdown. Now in BS4 on border of Brislington/St Anne's. Feels good to explore new parts of the city, we also have St George nearby. It's survived I think, though Broadmead has suffered a bit I think. Was strange being in Bristol in lockdown (like anywhere I guess!). I wasn't with my girlfriend at that point, so lots of time on harbour alone, but in fairness I appreciated the city more than ever as it was the one constant I could rely on and familiar. It's busy again now and people enjoying it so good to see.

The only sister restaurant to pasta loco that I know of (I think there are a couple) is Ripiena in the centre of town? Heard great things!

I hope you can get back here soon!

Ripiena! Thats the one! Was really really good... really good. All pasta freshly made. And yes, just off Corn Street in the centre.

Broadmead had been struggling since the new shopping centre redevelopment was done, so I did wonder if that might take a further hit.

I think we looked around Southville, is that the area towards Ashton Gate? I can't recall too much about the areas we looked at now, as it was pretty random street roaming for about 4 days running, which we did in London before moving here years ago.

But glad you appreciate it. I'd certainly recommend popping in the pigsty too, and by the time you've done you can just fall into wild beer pretty much next door!

I hope we'll get back. But sadly, covid will have to pretty much do one completely before thats possible for my missus. We've mulled over venturing to Kingston, but it does get very busy and the pubs/bars we like there are pretty much all indoors and get very busy, so we've stayed local or places we know we can get on overground trains for short distances that we know won't be very busy.

I will say, the pandemic has been an object lesson for us in valuing so many of the things we've been able to do and showing us how lucky we've been to have had so many good times. It's completely flipped our world upside down, but we're not alone in that and thankfully, we're still here.

Yeh I need to go Ripiena, one day! Yes Southville runs parallel with the river next to Bedminster, as you say down to Ashton Gate. It's mostly houses but some consider North Street to be Southville too - it's on the divide with Bedminster/Ashton in my opinion.

I hope things get back to normal for you in the near future, as you say lots to be grateful for, but also a lot of loss and disruption.
