Please stop trying to blame the disgusting actions of the shysters running our club on other supporters who have raised genuine concerns about the long-term future of the west stand. The ONLY people responsible for closing the stand are the 80% mob not your fellow supporters. The way you have been treated is absolutely disgusting. I'm not daft, and neither are you, we both know that the stand will have to be replaced one day and that when that day comes you'll lose your seats but when that does happen you should be given notice to allow you to find the best possible seats whilst construction takes place and should be offered first refusal of a like for like seat (or as close as possible) in the new stand when it opens. To simply close it and turf you out mid season is abhorrent behaviour and you have my every sympathy in what must be a horrible time for you. As you and others have said, it's not just a seat in a football ground it's a community and to be forced to leave that community without any notice is disgraceful
If you read my posts on the subject I well & truly blame the owners & it is not the fault of our fans but you will never get rid of the old I"m all right Jack attitude amongst any group of people , so when I point out that some of our fans will be pleased or others who couldn"t give a monkeys then I will not be far off the truth & if you are honest you know that is true but I do believe you have made some good points .
You're right, there may be 2 or 3 people out of our 15,000 fans who don't give a monkey but I wouldn't focus on those 2 or 3 people, I'd focus on the other 15,000 (which is probably more like 20,000 to be honest)
1100 Ways to Leave Your Lover: Walk round the back Jack, Just need to deploy Roy, Stick em in the East Stand Stan The Ponty End's glee.
Its pointless discussing it with you with your sarcastic comment about 2 or 3 people out of 15000, you are active on here & will have read many comments and posts slagging the west stand off over recent times & this is only a small group , so please do not make light of this & patronise me , we agree on the owners they are a disgrace, on that note over & out .
No way of knowing for sure, but this is the interpretation that makes most sense to me. If the council took the trouble to buy in to the club to preserve professional football in the town then it makes total sense that they would insist on a re-iteration of the covenant that preserves the land for that use. It would make no sense that having partly owned the land and facilities for 18 years they would then sell on to new owners without any preservation of the intentions for which they became involved. It is a noble and community-spirited policy that recognizes that no event since the second world war brought Barnsley people together more than the promotion run in 1996-97 and the year spent in the top flight. By extension, only people who wanted to cash in on other potential commercial uses of the land could possibly object to the insertion (or re-iteration) of a covenant to use the land and facilities for the sporting purposes protected. The 'clean title' argument put forward by Conway speaks to possible alternative motives for exercising the right to purchase other than the preservation of the football club.
Not patronising you at all and not being sarcastic. The amount of people who are glad they have closed the stand mid season and kicked you out of your seat will literally be 2 or 3 people. It's not what anyone else wanted. I've slagged the west stand off, so have many others. If you genuinely think that means we don't support your cause then you have massively misjudged people.
But that wouldn't explain con-ways statement about not being able to get insurance on the land. Actually nothing seems to explain that. What does he mean by insurance? Is it buildings insurance?
Only point t He wanted insurance regarding the title. Always seemed a bit weird to me if all you ever wanted Oakwell for was as a football stadium.
My money would be in they can’t get cover for the land not having sports played on it, if they tried to sell it.
The site where I live was originally (2015) contaminated waste land with a couple of derelict buildings which had to be demolished. We bought the site, paid to have it environmentally cleaned up, divided it up into self-build plots, and sold them. When we bought the site, our lawyers told us that the title for a small part could not be established, and therefore a purchaser of that plot would have difficulty getting a mortgage. The reason was that, in theory, someone could one day turn up and say "Hey, that's my land". The solution was to get title insurance, which would settle any claims from people claiming ownership, cover legal costs etc. All perfectly above board. That's my understanding of title insurance.
You can certainly see why someone who may have an intent to mortgage against a club would suddenly back out.
I've been backing the team since 1968 and had a season ticket since 1969. There's no way that I'm going to pay any attention to an individual who calls into question my commitment & loyalty to the club. However, it was personal circumstances that were initially stopping me attending the Sheffield United game. These circumstances have now changed and I will be going. I wasn't aware that I had to run these circumstances past anyone else, nor that it was any of their business how I conduct my life.
You asked whether I support the team. I've answered without the need to resort to making sneering, derisory comments others have used in this thread.
