    This was Johnstone’s second England cap. He was in the squad for the Euros too so one that Val inherited on this occasion.

    Not seeing it to be honest. He spent the Summer with the national team at a major tournament and Southgate really rates him to play him a second time. He was fairly established already I think.

    Not seeing that tbh Pope seemed to be the blue eyed boy under Southgate imo.

    And rightly so the way he performed last season.

    I know we love Val but he hasn’t turned Johnstone in to an International keeper. He already was one.

    He was no argument there but tonight he arrived as a genuine contender sand that pass to Grealish tonight was hallmark Val and he hadn’t been spoken about in the studio in the same light as tonight .

    Not really following here to be honest. Came close to leaving West Brom for £20 million plus but Covid put paid to that.

    Good for Val though if you think that. And good for Johnstone as he’s an excellent keeper.

    Tried watching it but it had all the intensity and excitement of a pre season friendly so gave up

    Well I wasn’t the only one to mention Val in the light of Johnson if you listened to the commentators and the studio guests !
    Not denying he was a good contender for the international team but he became a serious contender tonight and Valerian was mentioned with credit for the build up of the goal . So not just me !

    Wasn’t suggesting it was just you. Don’t share the view but good on him and good on Val.

    In a normal Summer I think Johnstone ends up at a top half club and established as England’s #2. He’s another with Newcastle written all over him in January.

    We saw the influence Val had on our own Keeper who had a brilliant season under Val as had others .
    Collins has gone from strength to strength with the confidence under Vals coaching .
    Other players who were influenced by Vals leadership haven’t done so well since he left hopefully that will alter but imo Vals input and enthusiasm into players brings out the very best in them.

    Anybody else thinking that if West Brom get a big enough for Johnstone in the winter transfer window then Val might be in for Collins?
