I'm not sure his assertion is correct. The 80% stake of the club was acquired from the Crynes using the Honk Hong investment vehicle, the club can't buy itself. The ownership of the club resides in that HK investment vehicle.

Surely the action would be against those who own the 80% stake of the club for non payment?

I think it's safe to say that everyone involved is telling the truth in half-truths, so it ends up nothing like the truth.

Spot on. Not one of them can honestly look at this situation and feel like they've done what's right for the club.

It won't happen but the council chief exec, the council leader, the Crynes and the 80% mob should all attend a meeting with supporters so they can be questioned about the mess that is the transfer of ownership of Barnsley FC and Oakwell.

The ownership of the club and the ground is very much public.

Barnsley football club limited is wholly owned by BFC Investment Limited. This is a Hong Kong based business. Barnsley football club is the playing entity and has assets mainly of players with minimal fixed assets (land, buildings etc). At the time of the purchase by BFC investment, Oakwell Holdings Limited showed a £2m investment in unlisted securities which is the presumed 20% holding in BFC investment limited.

Oakwell Holdings does not own the ground but is the company vehicle that the Cryne family used to receive the proceeds of the sale of the club. The accounts show that there is a further £2.75m of disputed payments for the sale of the the club still owing but expected to be received from BFC investment limited.

The ground is owned by Oakwell Community Assets Limited which originally was 50% owned by BMBC and 50% owned by Patrick Cryne. The accounts at March 2020 show that the annual rent paid was £150k pa and the lease had around 7 years left to run.

Another dull Thursday afternoon with too much time on my hands....

    Cheers for this.

Just to clarify, is it BFC Investment Limited that pays Oakwell Community Assets that £150k pa rent?

So BMBC and the Crynes, that could have saved 60,000 posts of blame on here today.

Seems very cheap - So - pay £150k per year or spend £2.75 million to own the whole thing? So thats 18 years worth of rent.

Depends what the lease says if the 80% mob agreed to be responsible for repairs you can't really blame the council for wanting to hold them to the lease and vice versa. The whole sagas as been a **** show from start to finish, except sadly the fact is it's not finished it's far from finished.

Heres a question, if the owners don't want to redevelop Oakwell. Would BMBC locate a new site for a potential new stadium and sign off on it?
Then the next question is, have our owners really got the capital to fund a new stadium?
Our academy and training facilities are pretty good, how could they replicate or better that?
Then there's the caveats about Oakwell land and how its used.
The Rev won't be sleeping soundly in his resting place tonight.

Bang on. Easy for people to take the side of the Cryne family because they are local and not foreigners. Maybe the Cryne family are in the right? Maybe they aren't? Us fans have no idea because we aren't in on what's going off. Fair to say though the three different groups of adults you mention should be able to behave like grown ups and come to some sort of agreement for the good of the club a lot sooner because this has dragged on a couple of years now.

So basically we've got Chien Lee and his mates that are worth 9 billion quid and the Cryne family that are mere paupers at c50 million but neither are willing to spend a few quid to sort the problem out. I'm neither a billion or millionaire but if I was and this was my club I'd get the bloody thing sorted. It's politics, it's browbeating, it's business. Ultimately it's nonesense.

Euro Millions tomorrow night is an estimated 172 million pounds. If I win it as the sole ticket holder I will happily pay the full cost of a brand new stand to get shut of the unsafe eyesore.

    Can't say fairer than that.
