Give me him any day! Tarn fan with good intentions! Urinates all over this ****** we have "running" the club!
He did well back in the 90s Sadly he would no longer be able to run the club like he did back then in this day and age. Footballs changed not enough money behind him but not convinced the current lot do either.
I'm not looking for a row here but it appears (from the outside) that the the current owners could do with attending a course on how to run a whelk stall. If you have a group of apparently wealthy owners who chose not to invest any of their wealth in the Club, then what do they bring? The only thing would be sound stewardship of the Club and its resources. IMO, these owners have not brought that. Therefore you might has well have an owner, who doesn't have any finance behind them, managing the Club - as long as they 'gave a toss' and were competent.
I do agree with you hence the end of my reply to wuz saying I'm not sure the current lot do either. They either don't have the finance avalible to invest or they aren't willing to invest there own money speculate to accumulate so to speak. We will have to see what the future brings within the next year or so we will be able to assess there time here but we look to be going backwards on and off the field
Left a truly visible & valuable legacy for this football club that others have been the beneficiaries of for nearly twenty years now.
All about investment. Let’s say you want to invest in something to make a bob or two. You decide on a Ferrari, persuading your bank that it’s going to be worth more in the future. Thing is you can’t drive. Doesn’t matter. Just garage for a few years. You might get lucky and make a lot. Or maybe the garage roof starts leaking and it goes a bit shabby and won’t start. No worries someone will have it off you. Sorted.
Many post on here that at least we're not doing a Derby or Wednesday and wrecking the club with debt. Others would like to see more investment from our multi millionaire owners in all areas of the club including the ground as well as the squad.. Somewhere in the middle is probably right as if nothings done we'll just continue to lose our best players and managers not to mention the backroom staff. The ground is already showing deterioration and issues with parking and getting into the ground are getting worse. I have in the past asked why these people are here and what do they get from us. they say they don't take money out of the club so where is the benefit on either side. they also don't appear concerned what league were in and don't care if we go down. baffles me what's in it for em...
The point is though, if we're going to be self sufficient, any one of us could run the club (OK, we couldn't, it would need a someone with a head for business and people), but in theory, we could. The trouble is you're competing with people who actually have millions and will will risk everything for that chance. Loose and you're the next Bury, or to a lesser extent Bolton or Derby, or Reading. Win and you're the next Leicester.
John Dennis gave us Premier League Football, an all seater stadium and an academy to be proud of producing local lads on a regular basis. Those in charge in the two decades since have gave us League One Football, Championship relegation battles, an academy that's heavily reliant on bringing in lads who have been in other academies and a decaying stadium.
Cryne put his own money in to fund players and subsidised the accademy for years. If the current owners put in the same % of their alleged wealth it would be some investment.
There should be a statue of John at Oakwell. Pretty much anything decent was built when he was in charge. Since then it’s been patching up and make fo and mend.
