He's just realised he'd signed for Barnsley. He had his Scott Wiseman moment.

He lays a towel over his part of the bench now , he gets up early and walks down then gets ready for breakfast .

The problem is that, without proper journalists able to get to the bottom of these stories then the internet is going to fill in the blanks - clearly Benson was not playing and not even selected in the squad, given then was no mention of this in the press conference it is a totally legitimate reason to ask "why?". If its for personal reasons then it should be stated - "its for personal reasons" , fans do have a right to know why players are or aren't being selected, especially when there is no obvious form/formation reason - Benson is our best midfielder and he's not being selected, why not?

That coupled with persisting with Oduor up front when Adeboyejo, Cole and Iseka were on the bench.

To what extent does a fan have the right to know?
ie if it was personal and Benson didn’t want it to be public, should the club say sorry the fans have a right to know and risk ruining a relationship between club and player?

It's not so much about a right to know, it's about understanding how what you say to the press can be interpreted. Schopp has just refused outright to say what sort of issue has led to the player not being available. If it was a personal matter, just say it's a personal matter. If it's a bust up, he can say he's decided not to pick him. The journalists could have asked if the player was unavailable, or if it was Schopp's decision to not include him in the squad.

It was similar with Iseka and Oulare's visagate. Schopp said "it's up to them", made it sound like they weren't doing the necessary work on their fitness. When really, the "them" was the home office.

No details required, is he injured? If not then is it a personal matter that has made him unavailable or have you decided not to pick him? Simple enough, at the end of the day we don’t deserve to know everything but we deserve to know more then total silence on the matter, I give the club £300 of my money every year, it should afford some rights.

    Yep.

And add to the fact there is nothing wrong with the travelling fans who shelled out a fair wadge of dosh to support their team having the right to know why a player wasn't involved. Doesn't need chapter and verse, but a 'personal reasons' or 'manager decision' would have sufficed.

Those fans are funding the manager and players livings, at the end of the day.

It reminds me of Brian Clough at Leeds. The way it's heading with Schopp.

I'm amazed that him saying JB couldn't train the last two days but is hopefully okay for the next match has caused such a fuss.

Even more absurd is the idea that he sat in the dugout throughout the half-time interval.

Here's half-time, about 11 minutes of video sped up x5.

I was once going to nick a bus to get home when I was pist and no taxi would take me. I broke into the bus garage but soon gave up on the idea when saw that the Lundwood bus was parked right at the back! ......Again, obviously true!!

I think disciplinary matters should be kept quiet and in house unless it's something like drink driving that's outside of the training pitch. If I was disciplined at work I wouldn't thank my manager for telling all and sundry. But the fact he's due to play Wednesday seems like there's no major issues and certainly no bust up.

Yes, it could be illness, or a personal issue. In fact, that's what I'd assumed when I saw the quotes. But when you say somebody hasn't been training, normally it's followed with a for health/personal/disciplinary issues, before then saying you cannot give any more details. A complete refusal to talk about it just seems to give the conspiracy theorists a bit of fuel.

Have to say, between this Benson rumour, and the whole half time / dugout stuff, there seems to be an agenda against the coach who wants to be here, seemingly because he's not as good as the previous coach that didn't want to be here.

Yep. 'Managers decision' would have encompassed that.

You come on here with your video proof and common sense replies. Must admit I was at the game and never spotted anything amiss in the dugout at half time - I think thats clearly because there was nothing to see, and I was puzzled by Bensons absence but just assumed he was injured. After Schopps post match interview that he couldnt train for the last 2 days I still thought that he was either injured or possibly had some personal issue and for me that was all I thought was necessary. Im curious to know more but I dont think there is any reason I should insist on it
