Interesting one. I wonder what the thinking is here - not good enough for us but good enough for Esbjerg? But if they're impressing over there then why jump to a permanent so early?
So we've let them have two players for nothing and retained an interest in just one of them. Sounds poor to me.
Makes me think what was the point signing them in the first place. I think we've got a terrible youth and reserve set up.
Makes me wonder if there is a cap on loan players out there a la Simoes at Doncaster last season with the club possibly wanting to either generate more game time for the other lads out there or to send some other youngsters out.
Don’t think either of them have featured much over there. Notice one of the other young lads has since come back early.
I think the idea is if they're any good then playing a level above in Esbjerg will help develop them faster than playing academy football. Also, although we've only retained an interest in one - I imagine that as they have gone to our sister club, we still essentially have first dibs on them coming back.
Sounds like a good deal for all parties. I think people often forget just how high the standard is in the Championship these days. It's elite level football. It's not quite on the level of the Premier League obviously, but it's better than every other top flight in the world, barring Spain, Italy, Germany and possibly France. Just because the lads in question haven't quite made the grade at Barnsley, it doesn't necessarily mean that something has gone wrong in the youth setup. It's very fine margins at professional level, and anyone who makes their living as a pro footballer even in a minor European league is likely to be so much better at the game than 99% of people who've ever kicked a ball it's actually quite difficult to comprehend. Good luck to the two lads. I hope that they rip it up in Denmark and we're trying to sign them back this time next year. But even if they just go over there and become solid players in the Danish top flight, then they'll be doing extremely well for themselves, even if the level they attain is not quite good enough to play in Barnsley's first team.
Some players can be at a club for several years and then released or thrown on the scrapheap with nowhere to turn. These lads may not be seen as Championship quality but have been given the chance to thrive with another professional club. I bet they're delighted to get this chance.
Don’t think there can be given Chelsea often have in region of 20-30 out on loan, currently have 22. Man City are similar in numbers
I agree Chelsea have used it for a way of generating money, very very few actually make it to the first team.
Sorry I think you misunderstood my comment. I meant a cap on the number of loan players a club (i.e. in this case Esbjerg) can borrow or use on a match day, not how many a club can loan out (unlimited I believe). Doncaster said last year that they couldn't play Simoes as they would have had too many loan players in their match day squad.
