I’m genuinely looking forward to the minority report if there is one tonight. I’m hoping you can tell me what the tactics are and what we are trying to achieve. Because I can’t make head nor tail of it. Three at the back, then four at the back. Play it out, don’t play it out. Mess about with at the back and get caught in possession, so switch to only two centre backs and still try and play out. In the final third, try to play to feet - but play passes nowhere near any. No physicality up front (ok he can’t have predicted Morris would get injured). Good luck buddy. Whilst we’ve some decent players that make the performance broadly ok in patches, it seems nigh on impossible to say what Schopp’s philosophy is tonight. We were poor in patches on Saturday but we at least seemed to have a shape. Tonight we’ve arguably looked better at times but I’ve no idea what they are trying to do. It appears to be ‘pick eleven players and leave them to it’.
Take into account 3 strikers out leaving us just Woodrow Adeboyejo and Miller plus Frieser who i class more as an attacking centre midfielder plus no Mads orJ Williams or Kane.
Same. I have no idea what our formation was in the second half - were we playing with one centre back (Helik) and then Kitching at lb and sibbick rb? why don’t we press any more?
My comments from tonight for what its with Benson played too deep Sibbick Styles Palmer Kitching had spells playing multiple positions at different parts of the game Odour is not a rightside of a front 3 player Brittain crossing from too deep Frieser looks to have been banned from taking long throws No physical presence up front Short pases in the box from Collins to Sibbick Helik totaly pointless Schopp style of play is going to struggle in this league with our players
We’ve swapped the Gegen Press for the Flower Press . It’s all very pretty but it’s not going to win owt at the Village Fete
Whilst we got the result on Saturday it was a bit of a fluke. They missed chance after chance in the first half & we took pretty much our only chance all game. I think Schopp’s tactics were the right ones tonight. He knew there was no point going long because we had no physical presence up front so he tried to break them down by playing through them & using Brittains crossing ability. We had a system on the ball & a system off it. On the ball Styles moved into midfield to be the extra man with Benson dropping deeper & Sibbick moving to the right to allow Brittain to push forward. Did it work? We almost scored twice from low Brittain crosses. I’d have to see it again but it felt like Cole should have scored. Brittain also nearly scored in open play so I’d say the tactic probably did work & we just didn’t put our chances away. For those criticising the tactics tonight I’m genuinely wondering what you think we should have done differently? Looking at the personnel available I don’t think a pressing game would have worked & there was no target man to play off.
The press is about winning the second ball not necessarily the first header , it’s about running at the keeper to try and force an error,, it’s about defending from the front , it’s about getting the ball quickly into the opposing teams last third , it’s about throwing the ball forwards from a throw in not backwards , it’s about long throws into the box to try and create havoc . We didn’t do any of that
I agree with you but does Schopp have or think he has the personnel for that? Oduor’s not a presser, options off the bench are limited without Morris & the Belgians. We can’t make 5 subs this season & until they’re available we can’t really make the most of 3 subs
I think the only player up front who looked like putting pressure on defenders was Frieser . Maybe we got used to Woodrow, Dike Morris and the rest of the team coming off the pitch absolutely exhausted . I’m not saying effort isn’t being put in but the intensity is missing
