Used to hate the little bugger ( in a good way) when England played them .
One of the greats RIP Gerd.

398 goals in 453 games for Bayern, and 68 in 62 for West Germany. I saw him score a hat-trick in 1973 for Bayern in an amazing game at Schalke 04. Bayern were 5-2 down at half-time and came back to draw 5-5. Beckenbauer was also in the Bayern line-up.

i always used to buy "442" mag on my hols and a few years ago there was an excellent article about the life and times of this remarkable goal machine. I cant remember the name but a former bayern and national team mate stated what a brilliant goal scorer he was. He stated hed kept himself to himself never mixed and would shove other team mates away to tap a ball one yard over the line!
Im sure privately he was a recluse and lived miles from anyone and just didnt mix...but boy proper goalscorer.
