I’d hoped this was a thing of the past. To be fair it was mainly 6-stone wet through spotty teenagers. But also one or two older morons.
Not very social distancing , we’re they wearing masks ? Morons are Morons whatever environment they find themselves in .
A few hoodies. Actually, on a serious note, the environment under the stand was pretty shocking given we are supposedly still in a pandemic.
This has made my heart sink. That and the comments about the concourses and toilets. While ever the virus exists, there's just no way I can watch a game live and be safe enough to be confident that I wouldn't catch it and then pass it on when i returned home. Completely demoralising.
Wasn't too crowded when we were on the concourse and spacious toilets I have to say I initially felt very claustrophobic in my seat but it soon passed. In Meadowhell with my daughters at the moment, about half and half with masks but it's not busy It is nice to be living a more normal life, but it's tiring!
If crowds are being allowed as normal it’s unrealistic to expect concourses and toilets to be any different to what they always were to be fair. Apart from wearing masks I suppose….
It is what it is, and I'm not surprised at all. I was just hoping it might not be the case and some behaviours may shift. But you're right, concourses in most stands just aren't going to be fit for a covid secure environment for someone who absolutely has to distance. At least there is a red button and full match replays after the event.
You don't have to stay on the concourse though. And although it's annoying you could go to the toilet during the match if needed. But in your situation with your wife I wouldn't want to risk it, although I assume you're double vaxed?.
I won't be going to a game any time soon for the same reasons. I take medication that suppresses the immune system and the vaccine will be protecting me less than most. I also have chronically ill elderly relatives to care for who are similarly compromised. There's no way I can keep a safe distance on concourses and stairwells, toilets are no-go zones anyway, not to mention getting showered with spit from people singing behind you, in stands fuller than I expected them to be.
Yes, I've had both jabs. I generally go when I first get there (and I've always liked to get there early, watch the warm up, read the programme) and thats it, I'm fine. But its the uncontrollables, and there's no way I can see me back at oakwell with such densely populated stands.... unless they want to open up the away end thats cordoned off, just for me ;-)
It's way too much to expect or ask, but it seems there are quite a few who post on here who are on immunosuppressants, or live with someone who needs them. If there was demand, could the club open part of the north stand to allow some in there to sit miles away from others? Obviously, that couldn't occur for games where the away following was large. Just a thought. It wouldn't benefit me especially as I've tended to see more away games than home in the last 5 years pre covid, but it might make a difference for others if they could get to and from the ground safely. As i say though, its a huge ask and I doubt it would be feasible on a number of levels.
Some ball boy I'd be if I was awol for 5 minutes every time washing my hands! And I couldn't wait, i mean it might be a dull game and picking my nose might be more entertaining! ;-)
