It’s pathetic. The second competitive game and unbridled moaning and ‘blackguarding of ‘fringe players. Last night was the first opportunity the new manager had to look at the second string players in a competitive game. It’s only fair to them he does that. Schopp had no intention of fielding a full strength side last night. He would be seeking to confirm his initial thoughts on those players he had formed during pre season. Fans are fickle so some moaning is to be expected, but it would be sensible to reserve critical comments for a couple of months. Remember Toby Sibbick was written off by many before his return from Belgium.:
There's massive confusion between moaning and just discussing the merits of a game and performances. You can be critical of a player without moaning about them. If someone hasn't performed well, or the team haven't performed well, it's ok to say that out loud on an internet forum. Especially if you use it in the same way you would a discussion with likeminded fans down the pub or on the walk away from Oakwell. Some of the replies to people just being open about how they saw the game last night are as OTT as some of the comments writing players off. It works both ways.
I didn't need to see Victor or Miller last night to know they aren't good enough for us, so I am surprised Schopp did.
I'm just looking at last night in exactly the same way Schopp seems to have, as another pre season friendly. The team he put out was obviously just to see how some of the fringe players get on in a semi- competitive game. Winning was not the objective. I reckon he got more info out of last night than he did against Cardiff.
A guy just below me at the match began booing and flagging our players at the final whistle. Then was shouting at other fans clapping the team when they came over. He then began telling them all to **** off. Imagine getting that worked up about our mainly 2nd string side, losing a cup game.
I’ll admit I’m not a fan of playing from the back , possession being the prime objective , it’s boring . Last season was football chaos theory in practice , it led to some turgid games but also a lot of exciting attacking games , players playing to their physical limits , great to watch , in my opinion , I accept others found it big hoof stuff but it worked . I’m hoping Schopp finds a way to make the middle ground work but if he can’t I hope the only word on the tactical white board is …..CHARGE
I was the opposite to be fair. I was that grateful to be back inside the stadium, I wasn't fussed at all that we'd been beaten by a league 1 side on penalties. Haha it was probably the same guy.
From what I saw last night, and from the highlights on Saturday, it doesn't seem as patient as it was under Struber. I think it might be more like it was under Stendel, which if we have the players for, could make for a good watch this season.
