The fairest thing is a trans category where both ftm and mtf can compete.

How is that fair? And how many global athletes are there for each sport and discipline to be able to have a full field?

how on earth is it fair that half of trans people (ftm) are never going to be able to compete?

Tbh Mr C, if we're still on this planet, it'll probably all be genetically engineered by then!

The fairest thing that I personally see is to allow competition for a gender. Trans athletes are extremely rare at elite levels of sport and the one example of a trans sports person competing has failed to prove a huge benefit.

I've said before, the last thing I think we should so is discriminate in sport against a small group of people who will face levels of discrimination in every day life that many other sectors of society will never experience.

Hopefully science will provide more robust answers, proof and treatments in the future to make any discussion irrelevant.

But we're not just talking about elite sport. And you haven't really answered my question about biological females missing out twice over .

I thought we were talking about the Olympics?

Yes women would miss out. Just like women would miss out if you excluded trans athletes. I'm sorry, but a trans woman is a woman in my view. So whichever route you take, a woman misses out based on competition.

Gravy chips is the only opinion I’d take seriously. Otherwise I’m flummoxed what the answer is..

I don't think even Gravy has an answer to this. It's so complex on so many levels. Whatever answer put forward has flaws in some way or another and disadvantages someone.

And if you gave that young biological woman her chance isn't there another young biological woman who hasn't had her chance at the Olympics? See how not everyone gets to go if they're not the best.

Let's just base it on biology then as it always has been.

Here's a simple fact. For the vast majority of us we are not biologically as fast or strong as an Olympic athlete and never will be.

I could train all day every day but every man in the 100m at the Olympics will be better than me because they have a biological advantage. That's life I'm afraid, we aren't all identical and from an athletic point of view we aren't all equal.

It is based on biology. A trans female athlete has to meet biological restrictions placed upon them just like Laurel did.

By that logic why separate at all then?

Well it is. Biological standards must be met. That's not an opinion, it's a fact.
