I've just been looking at the First Team squad and noticed that we have too "Kitmen" a head kit man and a kitman. Why does it need two kitmen to look after 3 kits? Has anyone got a Job description for a kitman to help me understand the complexities of the job?
Presume there's quite a few teams so quite alot of kits. They will need to be sorted prepared available and in the right place at the right time. A bit like getting dressed in a morning but multiplied somewhat.
I'm pretty sure two kitmen is a minimum you'd need to clean everything for the first team, under 23s/development squad and youth teams. That means home, away and third kits, training wear, bibs...not to mention ironing on all the appropriate names and numbers... Massive job really over the course of a full season!
And I'm guessing ordering new kit to replace damaged stuff, the logistics for transporting kit to away games... Bet there isn't a lot of down time!
A hell of a lot of work involved in sorting everything out for lads, it's a lot more than shoving all the kit on at 30 and hanging it out when it's done.
You might have asked the kind lady who lays out your nice clean clothes every morning. She could have told you what is involved.
Well just think about it. You need a dolly tub, a wooden dolly for bashing the clothes in the zinc tub, a single or twin tub for washing and spinning and a clothes line hung round the room meaning you have to fight your way through or under damp clothes. Plus a load of wooden pegs. Then hang said clothes over a clothes horse and put in front of the fire so they steam. Don't put them too close to the fire or else they'll singe. You are only allowed to do this on a Monday so that when you come back from school it is bloody miserable in the living room ! Then they'll need ironing, another miserable event, especially if you are wanting to watch Blue Peter. So yes, they need more than one kit man All those socks and shorts and shirts, sweaty underpants.
